  • Perry Ellis, a can't miss NBA prospect

    From the KC Star:

Even before he enters his junior year of high school, Ellis can have his pick of eight Division I colleges. Kansas offered first, Kansas State came sixth. Oklahoma, Memphis and Kentucky are also suitors.

Sounds like Perry might not even need to go to college. But there you have it Perry, the Kansas City Star makes sure to exclude Wichita State from the schools pursuing you.

At the risk of being banned and hated, as much as I would like to see Ellis come to WSU, I think there is NO CHANCE that Ellis comes to WSU.

You can always dream, but there is too much hype and pressure for him to go to a BCS type school for him to stay in Wichita, IMHO.

At the risk of being even more hated and banned, who cares if he evens considers WSU.

The 'One and Done' deal means one year of distractions, locker room discord, team chemistry issues and of course game day being used as a personal audition for next year's draft.

Find players who want to be there, be part of a team and buy into the coaches vision and concepts. 8)
Above all, make the right call.

I think he will be in college two or three years.

He is good enough to the point that he can play at any top 50 program and not suffer even the slightest downgrade in his reputation or game.
He'll be a highlight reel regardless of which top 50 program he attends.

He can go to KU and potentially be on a Nat'l Championship team and become one of dozens of KU greats.

He can go to WSU and potentially be on a team that makes a deep DEEP run into the NCAA tournament and possibly play for an NCAA Championship, and become a local legend that shall live in infamy.

            His future is bright.

I agree. While it would be nice to have him go to Wichita State, with the "one and done" philosophy, what does it really contribute to the long-term stability of the program? The "me" attitude that is prevalent in AAU basketball is not benefiting the game of basketball. All the AAU circuit does is provide a forum to showcase individual players. It is not designed to teach team basketball, unfortunately.

Just look at the great heights Xavier Henry took KU.

What I'm not really understanding is why is Perry even messing with these AAU or showcase games if he is injured. His stock can't get much higher whether he plays or not. I just don't see the upside of risking further or perhpas even permanent injury.

I agree that the Shocks' chances of landing Perry are very slim. Since he is looking at college primarily as a quick transition to the NBA he, no doubt, will be looking to play at a place where he will be facing NBA or near-NBA type size and NBA or near-NBA type talent on a fairly consistent basis. The MVC doesn't really provide that.
