  • Bored so here is my starting 5

Not saying this will be the starting 5 for the exhibition game, but the regular starting 5 for most of the year:

    GS
    JT
    Hatch
    Murry
    Rags

Another interesting question is how deep will we REALLY be? I'll say 9 players, barring serious injuries will get significant PT. One will redshirt and 3 others will be somewhat disappointed.

And lastly, has anybody got a clue to who the Shockers will scrimmage against this year?

We have a lot of players. In my mind, I compared this squad to any lot, during Coach Smithson's days. We have come a long way.

Maybe there will be 1 or 2 redshirts. I am not even sure, who that could be. Maybe Ben Smith.

I think that Garrett, JT, Graham, and Toure are pretty much locks to start. Both Joe and Demetric should get plenty of minutes at point, and either could end of being the starter.

I think we will see a 10-man rotation, but 1 or 2 of those guys won't see huge minutes.

The amazing thing is we have 8 guys...possibly nine that all could be starters. Take the starting five that was outlined first and then think about how close DWill and Rags are, Kyles and Murry, BLair and Durley and finally Smith and Hatch. Anyone of them could start. IT's going to be tough to distribute the minutes!

Honestly, with this years team starting is just a required action in order to start the game. At the point Rags will shine in some games, while Williams will stand out in others. Potentially Murry & Kyles could be interchangable; the same could be said for Hatch and Smith. Although I predict Durley to be a stud this year, Blair will outplay him against certain opponents. At the end of the day the starting lineup for the SHOX is just a mean to an end...stacking up a whole lot of W's due to a deep team of talented and hopefully hungry players. :goshocks:

What do you all think about have having two distinct "fives"?

              Garrett --- EO
              Durley --- Ellis
              Hatch --- Smith
              Murry --- Kyles
              DWill --- Rags

Each group plays 4 mintues. The group that is playing best begins and therefore ends the second half.

UNI worked this to perfection last year, and I would say without the talent on the second five.

I think they weren't mentioned because it will be either a pleasant surprise from unexpected contributions, or a real disappointment from expected contributions from other players if these three get significant minutes.

I think Stutz, Durley and Hatch and Toure are locks to start. The Stutz/Durley thing might change depending on matchups.

Beyond that we'll win some games we should lose and lose some we should win. Some players will be better than we think (Stutz late last year) and others not quite as good we hoped (Murry last year). I think we'll have a better idea of how good we are six games into this season than we did six games into last season. By the eighteenth game of the Valley season we should have a pretty good idea of where we'll finish in the standings. If we win the Valley tournament we will be NCAA bound. If we don't, we may or may not get in.

These are my predictions. Argue if you will.

                        I submit:

                        Stutz --- EO/Ellis
                        Blair --- Durley
                        Hatch --- Smith
                        Murry --- Kyles
                        DWill --- JRag

                          Murry --- Kyles
                          DWill --- Rags

I look forward to seeing what Richardson and Hamilton can do, but I think we're a year away from really seeing that. I like the way things set up though.

I like this lineup. It seems to me that DWill is unlikely to be satisfied with playing backup, but having he and Ragland battle it out is a good thing.
