“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

Excellent article! The most telling and exciting piece of this article is:

"JT: In 2007 you became the first coach in Big South history to go undefeated in conference play. How were you able to keep your team focused every single game, and where does that accomplishment rank among your career highlights?

GM: We had a special group of guys who wanted to achieve great things. It was a veteran group that had previously been very close to advancing in the tourney, but they wanted to win, not just get there. We needed a good seed, as our highest in the past had been a 14-seed. We had no guarantees that we would get in as an at-large if we did not win our conference tourney. We played a bunch of great non-conference teams that year: North Carolina, Maryland, Wisconsin, etc."

HC3G is the real deal and we are blessed to have him. Let's get behind him and whoop some but this year and many more!

JT: You coached at Winthrop for nine seasons and made seven NCAA Tournament appearances. How were you able to remain so dominant over such a long period of time?

GM: It is not easy; you have to recruit players who can make you better. Our administration helped make it a better job by improving everything from the facilities to the weight room to the office.
You think it's on his mind?

I just don't understand how people can read something into anything thats printed or said. Lets illustrate with another question and answer.

JT: Why take the head coaching position at Wichita State?
GM: It was a tremendous opportunity for me and my family. It is a program where there are no excuses, AS WE HAVE EVERYTHING WE NEED TO COMPETE AND WIN.
Notice how none of this was past tense and that he seems upbeat about the move. I must have missed the part of the interview where GM said things have deteriated to the point that its time to leave unless someone has some inside information to that effect. Please feel free to pm me with this breaking news.

Pogo, this may not be what you were talking about, but I don't think that's what shizzle or I was saying.

Without speaking for ws, I was simply referring to the fact that holding on to the status quo is a path to certain failure, and a path I am afraid we are currently following.

The theory of relativity, as applied to a college athletic program:

If you're not moving forward, you're actually moving backwards.

At least I think that's what people are saying.

Moving forward might not require something as difficult as adding multiple programs to the athletic department. It requires doing something, or any gains that have been made (relative to others), will be lost.

Hey, I was able to work an example from physics into a basketball thread. We really need to keep our physics department.

I love our coach and especially his candidness... and (IMO) he's worth every penny we're paying him. We need to continue to give him every reason to stay.

I am admittedly not up on the goings on in the Athletic Department. What steps should the AD be taking that are not being taken to improve our programs right now? Conversely, what counterproductive actions are being taken currently? Until someone can line these out for me, I'm in the "sky is not falling camp." I'm not saying that any opinion is wrong, just that I am not seeing any direct or indirect linkages to poor performance.

Have you ever heard ES's actual voice?

                        I haven't.

How long has he been the AD again?

I don't understand the idea that an AD ought to be really visible. From what I have seen, most really effective ADs are ones that aren't constantly in the spotlight.

I think that the same is true of GMs in pro sports. He is getting more credit now, the average person had no idea who R.C. Buford was. He was never is the public eye. He never was publicly explaining his plans. He was just working constantly behind the scenes to assemble championship teams.

I think the jury is still out on how successful Sexton will be, but I fail to see personal visibility as a measure of his success. Otherwise, you would say that KU has the best AD in the world, because he sure is visible.

I think what bothers people is tha JS could be heard from time to time and he talked occassionally about the programs and what he saw in the future. I'm not sure I've heard ES speak since he was first hired. I would like to hear him say something about what he sees in the future of WSU athletics. He doesn't have to line everything up and give details, but it would be nice to know he sees the University as being capable of more and is striving to make it so. That's what we got from JS and he was rather successful. I understand that it's not a requirement, but considering ES has been questioned from the start by many and it hasn't gotten any better the silence from him doesn't make anyone feel all warm and fuzzy about things. Many wonder if he even has a plan. I'm sure he does, but at this point, I'm not sure if it's a good one or not. I have my doubts based on other sources but who knows how much those sources actually know considering all anyone seems to really know about ES is he can smile and shake hands.

Maybe I'm still used to the way JS worked in his ways. As an AD, I think an update on our athletic programs every 6 months (at the very least) or so is not asking too much. Again, has anyone ever heard the man's voice before? The Lewie Perkins comparison is not a good one. He has gained his "limelight" through various failures and embarrassments. That is the exception, not the rule.

It would be different if ES carried out his message without having to speak and actually getting his layout across to the fanbase, alumni, and university. However, that just isn't happening so hearing the guy needs to be the next step.

I just don't think he realizes the responsibility from which he has been dealt with. It's getting way over worrisome.
