    Missouri State extends Martin's Contract

Martin's base salary remains at $140,000. The total compensation package is estimated to be $300,000 annually, including income from television and radio shows and promotional compensation provided by the school.

It's contract extensions like this that raise questions about the long-term outlook of some schools in the conference, and as a result, the long-term viability of the conference at a reasonably high level of play.

At that salary level it will be impossible to retain a successful coach. It appears MSU is satisifed with either mediocrity (even though they fired Hinson who was substantially above mediocre) or replacing successful coaches on a regular basis.

Neither option creates optimism for the long-term direction of MSU basketball.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

If they actually attain any NCAA post-season success, I'm sure they will rework his contract.

Don't think there is a question you will be "decent". I think you guys will be among the top 3 this year. The issue is keeping the coach once you guys do continue to build.

I would think Missouri St would come up with some pretty decent $$$ though if Cuonzo has the kind of success I feel he will achieve within the next year or two. Regardless, it won't matter. MVC schools will never compete with the $$$ or sometimes prestige of a mid/high level BCS school.

Let me use myself as an example to illustrate the problem MSU has with this contract.

When I got hired at my current (previous as of Monday) position, I wasn't thrilled with the salary. It was "acceptable" at the time. I did some research and found out that a lot of other people in similar positions both nationally and locally were making more money than I was. I pointed this out to my superiors.

After my first year, no one got any raises. It wasn't in the budget. I had a great review and had exceeded expectations, but I didn't get any more $$.

This year I got an even better review.

(So far I think I've got a pretty good parallel with Martin's situation at MSU). I don't know what kind of a raise I was going to get this year because I found another department that had more money in their budget.

I don't think I'm unique or different from most posters here.

Exceeding expectations and not being recognized for that financially is something you don't forget. It stays with you and makes you more inclined to look for other opportunities. Especially if your pay scale is below that of your peers.

Can't say I disagree but we have finished 10th and 7th in his first two seasons...not sure that is raise worthy at this time considering we have finished 5th or better 14 of the 20 seasons we have been in the Valley (I should add I don't blame Zo at all for our finishes because Barry had already started the decline and left the roster in horrible shape)

If we make the jump up this season Zo will be taken care of and if he moves on we have a young staff in place ready to move up

The problem here is why wouldn't the staff go along with Martin to bigger and better things?

I doubt wherever the staff went they wouldn't get paid what Zo is making here as assistants. Right now Harris and Woodberry both make $70ish so making $300,000+ would be a nice raise for them.

If Zo leaves Harris will be our next coach

http://www.msubearnation.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=18503 does not give a link but says:

                    Total sports attendence for 09-10
                    ...
Only WSU was listed on NCAA's website since they were the only school in the top 50 in attendence. If anyone knows where to find the other baseball numbers we can update this.

Anyone have the appropriate link for "Top 50 attendance"?
Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

'Zo' appears to be the real deal. Going from 11-20 to 24-12 the second year is good progress. He looks and acts like a real coach, and his team seems to be on an upswing.

Any coach in the Valley that has success is in endanger of being hired by a BCS school.
