  • how about this new conference?

I'm a missouri state fan, so I thought up this new conference after reading about the 3 southland football schools that are looking into FBS, with MSU and ILSU fans wanting to move up these 5 schools need a home. With the MVC losing teams and you guys wanting the possiblity of adding FBS in the future it makes since for you to be a basketball only member and bring in creighton to round out the confernce and bring their hoops strength. This also opens up all the big texas tv and recuiting markets for us.

It looks like a weaker hoops league than the MVC but we do get to leave e-ville, drake, and indy state behind so its really about a push.

Wasn't North Texas once a Valley member? If so, why did they leave?

      A for effort

NGTH for never going to happen

I'll say this.....despite the bears having football and WSU not I hope they maintain conference affiliation together in the future.

MSU, ISU red, CU, and BU are the only schools (and WSU of course :D ) to me that don't come off on television as 3rd rate schools. Thats shallow and lame but I can't help it.

How's this for a new conference?

              MVC - (Drake + Evansville) + (Butler + SLU)

Anybody got the answer to that equation?

I like the idea but why not keep the other schools as easy wins, somebody had to lose every game. And if ILSU and MSU do leave for FBS then you would be down to 8 if they were kicked out.

Butler just played in the National Title game. They didn't see themselves in the valley before, you think they see themselves in it now? Outside of that walrus of a coach nobody else associated with SLU wants anything to do with the valley.

This is what I've been trying to say. The only schools that make sense for valley expansion (good basketball, no or fcs football) are butler, slu, xavier, dayton. NONE want anything to do with the valley and hell will have to freeze over first.

CU and BU are private and don't really fit with us well if some sort of break up went down.

ISU red and MSU fit best with WSU except WSU doesn't have football.

WSU needs football or it's going to become an island unto itself.

In addition, WSU Basketball needs to win. Then win some more, and then even more. Be so engrained in the national radar that we become familiar--to the point that people start expecting us to win games in the tourney, rather than just show up. We also need to continue to build without taking 2,3 or 4 steps back even if we end up changing coaches. Finally, if we can succeed in this way, we may be in a position to be attractive to other conferences. I'd love to see us join a better conference but until we can accomplish long term success, the only marketability we have to other conferences is in the heads and daydreams of fans, not of other league commissioners--whether we have football, or not. Dominate the Valley year in and year out and then who knows?

I think by the time that happens, I will be too old to enjoy it. Elgin seems content to keep the Valley the way it is now.

And even though I would like to see football back at WSU (but not at the expense of the other sports, especially Basketball), it is nothing more than a pipedream being tossed around.

Sadly, my prediction, the United States will win a Soccer World Cup before WSU has any kind of football program.

The Valley broke apart over a big fight over football money. It is funny how some things don't change.

Back then the ncaa had a very good football TV package and the Valley was guaranteed so much money a year. (I think the Valley's share was over $1 million a year, which was a lot of money back then).

I remember Louisville in particular was very mad about the distribution and that is why they left. I also recall that Memphis was upset about it too. I don't remember if NTSU was too, but I bet that was the reason. Several Valley members left during that time period because of the fight over football money.

NTSU left the valley in the 1970s to become an independent. at that time, they had a decent football team, but couldn't fill their stadium to play the wichita state or tulsa of the world. their athletic department thought that they could turn themselves into a texas football power by playing the texas schools.. they did have a good win/loss record under hayden fry from 1975-79, but have been a doormat since.
