You can thank the entire mess on a singular root cause.

Is it a big time $$$ grab?
    Duh.

The whole schmo sucks, but the BCS schools literally have to do this.

    And why may you ask?

They need the jack to pay for non-revenue generating sports programs.

And what specific programs would those be oh wise one?

    Enter Title IX.

Above all, make the right call.

The only way you can get out of Title IX is to not take any federal $.

Title IX is administered by the Office for Civil Rights in the U.S. Department of Education (OCR).[8] It applies to an entire school or institution if any part of that school receives federal funds; hence, athletic programs are subject to Title IX, even though there is very little direct federal funding of school sports.

        Ashockalypse,

You have a great idea and I would join you. If they leave the NCAA or want to really change the rules, I don't have to watch them play. I don't most of the time now.

I enjoyed the NCAA Tourney watching the other than BCS teams play each other or playing the BCS teams. When two BCS teams played, I didn't watch.

If we want to have an impact on TV revenue to the BCS schools, STOP watching them play.

They need the jack to pay for the Title IX programs, yes, but there's no way anyone can tell me that programs wouldn't be wetting themselves over the potential payday from television contracts, Title IX or no Title IX. That is a factor, but an incidental one when it comes to the ever-present desire for funding. I'm sure that athletic departments could find plenty of other uses for millions and millions of dollars. So these programs would make the jump regardless.

The mid and lows need to form their own association andj keep those bastards out and let the chips fall where they may. Ricky Bobby said it best. They are just turning into pros and everyone hates the pros now. Nobody may care whether I watch but I can assure them...I wont.
Don't be surprised if the number of schools in the 4 super conferences j(or five) just coincidentally happens to total 68.... hhmm... where have I heard that number before.... 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

The key is the source of the money. Congress could make it expensive to broadcast non-NCAA (or non-NCAA approved) college sports. (Put a surcharge (to go to Pell Grants) on such broadcasts? Who knows but Congress could find a way.)

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.
