    Today's Practice

The informal practice started today on the main floor at Koch around 4:30 PM. Gabe Blair wasn' back yet & I eventually found out that Stuz was away working on a paper for a summer school class. I didn't see Ellis either. The most important thing I saw is that Joe Ragland is the real deal. He is super quick, can shoot from the outside & is a good passer. He looks quick on defense, too.

Since I know about the roster players, I was interested in the 2 new walk-ons, Josh Walker, the 6-8, 245 lb transfer from Pittsburgh State & Randall Vautravers, who can both shoot. Vautravers looks to be at least 6-5. We saw him walk by Tyler Richardson who is 6-4, and Vautravers looks taller than him.

The players rotated in and out, so when Hatch was out, I sat with him awhile. He graduated from Mesa High the year we moved from there to Wichita, so I see him occasionally and talk basketball. He said that the K in Orupke is silent. Orupke was sort of reserved for his 1st rotation on the floor, but for the 2nd one, he became much more active - rebounding, making a few dunks & playing defense.

JT Durley put on quite an awesome display of offense both inside & outside. Toure did a lot of driving. Demetric Williams and Joe Ragland are going to give the Shocks a lot of speed and quickness at point guard. Ben Smith looks strong and should be an able backup to Graham Hatch who drained a lot of 3's today, made some of his patented drives to the basket and looked a step quicker.

We talked a bit to David Kyles after the scrimmage. He looks thicker in the shoulders now. He said he is pretty excited about next season.

      :good:
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!
