    2. If he only plans on playing one or two years it makes even more sense to at least be the big star at WSU then just another all american at a BCS school.

    3. He could leave a life time mark in his home town and be remembered forever. At Ku or another similar school he would be quickly forgotten as yesterday's story as soon as he left. In fact at a school like Ku competing with so many stars he might end up being a never was.
    1. No he wouldnt. Granted he would be a guaranteed star in the MVC (Mo Evans anyone) If Perry is the "phenom" he is billed as then its not going to matter if he plays for Florida International let alone Wichita St

    2. No it doesnt. Would WSU's TV stock rise with a Perry Ellis? Maybe. But its not guaranteed. Im not trying to say the kid is the next John Wall or Kevin Durant but both had quite a bit of success not playing for the hometown team.

    3. About the only part I agree with. Yes staying home and playing would be monumental. But do you really think people are going to write him off he decides to further his career at Duke?

The fact of the matter is most of this fine forums words on Perry Ellis is that if he doesnt stay and play for WSU then he'll be a has been hack. Thats pretty retarded. Sure we all want him to stay and play. But in the end our program is steadily progressing. Perry would increase that and bring national attention. But he's not going to be a make it or break it player.

      +1

He will be a big time player wherever he goes. If he doesn't go here then, thats fine and I will wish him the best.
The mountains are calling, and I must go.

A lot of this discussion depends on just how good a player Perry will be.

If he is a "one and done" level of player, I agree with ASM. Perry will be a much more known product (still not a guaranteed product) for the NBA scouts if he's a top player with a top BCS program.

If when his high school career is down to its last year and it is pretty uncertain about that status level, that's when making that college decision much tougher. If he goes to a "Duke", he could end up being a roll player his freshman year, just too much experienced talent ahead of him. On the other hand, he could become a starter at a lesser BCS program or a star at a successful "WSU" program. More than likely, he could be a more sure and higher pick after the second year at a WSU, but it would probably be no better than what he would be a BCS program after 3 years.

All this may just be secondary to him as his dreams and desires (maybe to play in his home town) may be more important. The Dukes of the world are filled with players that will be little more than roll players there, but who could have been 3 or 4 year starters at most non-BCS schools and finished their college career as stars and top players in those conferences. BUT that wasn't their dream.

I hope he does come to the Shockers, but I will wish him to absolute best even if he doesn't.

          2. Play in the environment they grew up watching and supporting
          3. TV appearances (stated that in todays markets, most decent school offer this, and thats why it isnt rated higher)

I was thinking if this is true this gives us hope to sign Perry Ellis. I also was surprised he didnt list the Coach. Just wondering if this might play out more for football than bball. Still it kinda gave me a little hope. :posterwu: 8)
Anyone that goes to a university just to have a "better" chance of winning a title is making a poorly thought out decision.
          • 1. You would be ignoring playing time. If you go to Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, etc. then you are going to be competing with some very good players just to even get on the court. Especially since some of them will be upperclassmen!

            2. You would be ignoring the fact that even great teams have down years. A one year player probably would not be happy attending North Carolina or Memphis this year.

            3. Finally, to borrow a phrase from Highlander - "There can only be one". Even the best of teams will fall in the tourney. For example Duke just had a nine year gap between national championships and they are arguably the best team in college basketball.

There are several good reasons a person may wish to play outside of Wichita. Perhaps to see a different part of the country, admire an out of state program and wish to be a part of it, etc. However, ignoring item 1 on KC's list for a roll of the dice is just stupid.
