  • NCAA Tournament to Expand to 68

The NCAA is on the verge of expanding the men's basketball tournament from 65 to 68 teams beginning next year, and has a new, $10.8 billion TV deal that will allow it to show every game live.

Though i'd prefer they keep it the way it is, this is much better than 96 in my opinion.

I would bet there is another bump next year when the seasons ends.
By then CBS. TNT and TBS will have figured out how they are going to split up the games.
"Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media,
which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

I hope I am wrong, but this probably means that in the future there will be more BCS slots available in the tournament. If it benefits teams other than those from BCS conferences, I will be surprised.

        Hate to be cynical, but...

It's the old Court TV channel. It is now 24 hours of Cops, worlds most outrageous videos and maybe Oprah. Not sure.

This should have been done in 2001 when they expanded to 65...that was beyond stupid.

All they did today was create space for 3 more BCS at large spots I promise you.

I think Operation Repo is on this channel as well....which is just about as outlandish a depiction of an industry as has ever been seen.....that being said..its pretty damn funny
1/16/2010 on the "Screw at the Q" HCGM... " Ive never seen a foul parade like that...If you would of let me know it was going to be a foul parade I would of brought a different team" .... "dont talk to me about fouls....Ive got to go back and look at some tape... I have some thoughts but I need to look at the tape and then I will have something very strong to say"

I thought this was only a recommendation and not a done deal yet.

So does that mean that each no. 1 gets a play-in opponent? I can't see how you structure the tournament by adding in only 3 teams unless there are 4 playin gamesm.

That is exactly what it means. Instead of the 2 worst conferences battling for road apple status, now it will be the 8 worst and they'll add the 3 new BCS teams into the regular draw.

I think this is the worst possible scenerio (I hope I am wrong).

I think this means we remain a one bid conference and the BCS gets 3 more bids. This is absolutely terrible.

Anyone who thinks any change at all is for anyone other than the Bcs benefit has got their head permanently planted in their colon. The NCAA is completely beholden to the BCS and totally frightened as we speak that the Lew Perkins scenario might actually occur. Add perennial power houses Clemson, Auburn and St. Johns to next years tournament.

Man you guys are doom and gloomers. Whoever the next three best at large teams are are going to get the bids.

I agree, Although it definitely seems like there is a BCS bias in most things NCAA, this doesn't SOLIDIFY three more BCS spots. I remind you that they took Utah State over Illinois this season, even when ALL the talking heads wanted different. There were also the most non-BCS teams in 2010 since 2006. So don't get doom and gloom yet, just three more spots up for grabs.
