  • Solid Article on Conference Expansion

The Big East built its reputation as a basketball power, but the recent talk has only highlighted how little basketball is considered in expansion.

Football, as the old saying goes, drives the bus in college athletic departments.

    Another interesting piece:

Eventually, Crouthamel said he saw the Big Ten, the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Southeastern Conference and the Pacific-10 forming four 16-team superconferences and leaving the umbrella of the N.C.A.A. (Just imagine the fight between the SEC and the Pac-10 for Texas.) He said that those leagues would form their own basketball tournament to rival the N.C.A.A. tournament.
That could leave a number of Big 12 teams looking for a home.

Many of the Big 12 fans could never conceive of that ever happening. They are hunky-dory in their own little world.

Maybe the B12 North could just move down a division. Then they can find plenty of schools in the area that play at their level.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Speculation in KC a couple of days ago is that as many as 3 teams could leave the B12 North for the Big 10 or PAC. Besides Missouri, Nebraska and Colorado were mentioned.

It was also reported that no team is lobbying to join the B10 harder than Missouri. Mike Alden, the Mizzou AD has been increasingly difficult to reach by the media since the speculation started a couple of months ago.

Consensus is that the B12 North is screwed....
