The majority of his time was spent playing with the walk-ons as well. Hard to improve your game in real game situations when that's all you get.

I still have no doubt in my mind that KJ will end up being a very good player wherever he ends up and wish it would have been here.

If it is true that KM was asked to leave then I am also disapointed in the staff's decision, unless KM wasn't holding up his end of the bargain and putting in the work necassary. KM did get a fair shake though and was beaten out by DW. He had the chance to go up against DW everyday and was beaten head to head. I wish KM would have been able to stay and work harder and be a contributer, however the staff probably knows alot more than we do, and maybe Kenny really does want to be closer to home.

Looking forward to what I beleive many see as a sheer desire to have players with the upper level athletic ability we saw from teams like Stanford last year and Nevada from this year. Ability that will help us not just compete with the best teams in the country but beat the best teams in the country.

I think many(myselft included)saw in KM that athletic ability and believe having to wait 3 or possibly 4 years to get to see the basketball level catch up to his athletic ability a worth while investment. The dissapointment with seeing him go can possibly be seen as a step back for some people.

Im dissapointed yes...but I think I wish the best for Kenny more than my selfish wantt that we could keep him in the wings while he developed while not getting any PT.

I don't know the circumstances of either player leaving. I'd wager that no one on this board really does either. Every team has defections, dismissals, transfers and dropouts. I don't see a trend here, yet.

I don't agree with some of you about Coy. I don't think he or Manigault got a raw deal.

Coy didn't stay over the summer to work with the team. Then, he came back in the fall and still gave a lot of time to Baseball instead of focusing on Basketball which is how is schooling was being paid for.

As to KM, the coach said on a coaches show in January that he had suggested to KM on 75 to 100 occassions that he needed to go in on his own time and work on his shot. KM decided not to take his advice. This is the possible result.

I can give an opposing team an easy scouting report on KM. He can't shoot so don't worry about him and double team another player.

Ben Smith will not be so easy to deal with. Leave him open and you might regret it.

The bottom line is this, How good do you want WSU to be? Do you want to be competitive in the MVC and get beat regularly in round 1 or 2 of the NCAA Tourney, or would you like to risk getting better players and make a run at the final four. WSU has lost to a lot of teams outside the MVC. Stanford last year and this year WSU lot to Pitt, Utah State and Nevada. If you want to compete at the highest level, the talent needs to get better, IMO.

As Sgt. Schultz from Hogan's heroes would say, "I know nothing - nothing"

I have an opinion that when a coach goes public and says what a player needs to work on and that player later transfers, then either the player decided not to work on his weaknesses, or there was no improvement.

If the player declined the opportunity to work on a part of his game that needed work, that's an indication the player would probably do better somewhere else, so it's best to explore other opportunities.

If the player worked on those aspects of his game and didn't improve, then it's best that the player explore other opportunities, because that player might be disappointed with his PT over the course of his career.

There doesn't have to be fault or blame placed. Sometimes things just don't work out.

The situation with Durley pretty much demonstrates that Marshall doesn't have a real quick trigger on releasing players. If there was ever a player that did everything possible to aggravate a coach, that was Durley and Marshall. Durley's and Marshall's attitudes about the game were about as diametrically opposed as possible. Some knowledgable fans with connections in the athletic department were convinced Durley was gone after his So season, yet here he is and he's contributing.

Most of this thread assumes he was asked to leave.

                        What if he wasn't?

Marshall set out to address the one glaring spot in our lineup next year: PG. Williams filled in nicely, but it's still somewhat a risk naming him the absolute starter. So GM went out and got one of the top juco points in the nation.

KM was looking up at DW, who himself may or may not be looking up at Rags now. KM's good at math and new that was two people he'd have to leapfrog to become the starter; KM's good at math and figured there wasn't a whole lot of the 40 left for him.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

Bottom line was Johnny Coy did not plan to play basketball. It was a ploy to get a scholarship that Gene did not have. His ticket in his mind was baseball. His scholarship is now going to be used to benefit the Shockers for two years. He was so far behind the other post players that I heard Coach say once that even Mason was ahead of him on the depth chart.

Kenny did not want to work in practice. I have even heard that Bryce Mayes consisstently out played him in practice. Obviously Demetric did out play him too and took advantage of the opportunities. Demetric got his chance when Clevin was suspended and then he sat when Clevin was eligible. He got another chance when David got hurt and he took advantage of it. The rest is history.
