X: "I'd like for you to sign with the Shocks"
Recruit: "I'd like to take some time to think about it and consider my other offer from KU."
X: "KU ? How bout I beat the $%*& out of you right now"
Recruit: "Ok, where do I sign ?"

We don't need a TX guy as I believe Marty gives us that. Jans seems to have the JUCO connections as well as some others thru the IL,IA,MN and what have you areas. Not sure how strong he is in Chicago. I'm sure Marshall has contacts in the SE but it never hurts to find another. Or maybe someone with ties to the NY, DC, Philly area of the country or even the left coast.
I could never argue against X or Cliff but it's not going to happen. And as much as I love Sparky, I'm not sure he's ready for the spot and would like to see someone with more recruiting connections. LJ would give us a major in with the KC area which has provided some pretty good players lately.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

I doubt we have even talked about the replacement here yet.
This needs to be a solid, impressive hire and I don't think Gregg just started thinking about it.
Chris Jans will be in line for a head coaching position, sooner than later, and Gregg isn't going to want to rebuild the entire staff.
Coaches are notorious for pre-planning for the next assistant.

Something gives me the feeling we just lost a strong recruiter in the Southeast. Marshall has plenty of connections, but it seems a strong regional recruiter would be the attraction for Clemson going after Grant.
Losing an assistant shouldn't be taken lightly. The importance of an assistant is often overlooked by fans.
Bradley fans wanted to fire Les a few years ago. Then Les hired a supposedly retired assistant, started winning some games, and made a S16. Then that assistant retired again and Bradley moved right back into the middle of the pack in the Valley where Les has had them through his entire career. Now Bradley fans want to fire Les again. I think Lowery lost an assistant at SIU just before he imploded that program, but I'm not certain.
It's a big adjustment for a staff and affects everything from how recruiting is organized to how practices are set up and handled, to how game-time decisions are made. Grant has been Marshall's "guy" for quite a while now, so this may have an impact on the W/L record next year. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Good points, Aargh. And you're right about Lowery. He had Randy Watson who left for, I think, Southern Indiana a couple years ago.
I think both Grant and Jans were a pretty good 1-2 recruiting punch. And I do believe Jans is destined for a head coaching job before long, so we definitely need a good recruiter to come in for Grant.
Certainly Marshall knows what Grant meant to his staff and will fill the void adequately.
