  • Recruiting disparity

This goes to show just how quickly a program can fall from the top of the mountain.

While Marshall is out getting 1st team NJCAA All-Americans, Chris Lowery is getting a verbal from a 6'0" SG who is 4th on his team in scoring and ranked as the #30 juco player in Illinois. (And a teammate of recruit Mamadou Seck).

Troy Long may end up being a good shooter for SIU, but the disparity between the programs is obvious and huge.

Part of me feels a little sorry for Lowery, but not really. He made his bed, now he needs to lay in it.

Lowery didn't have much luck on or off the court with "the best recruiting class" ever. But this guy does seem a little out of character for SIU. As far as I know he is not a cousin of Lowery nor does he have a criminal record.

I hope Lowery is the SIU basketball coach for decades.

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

My inside sources say that Kevin Dillard is transferring to Xavier and Booker is leaving for Mizzou.

Lowery not going to be long if this is true.

It's amazing that SIU did as well as they did for so many years. They have crappy facilities, lousy support, and SIU is in what could be considered the worst MoVal town/city in the conference.
I've got to tip my hat to them for being competitive for the last decade.

They can't afford to buy him out.

If those two leave then SIU has virtually nothing and even less recruiting credibility. So I could see one of two scenarios:

              1. They keep Lowery around for another year as the AD raises enough funds to fire him.

              2. Lowery resigns.

"SIU Arena will undergo a complete retrofit – both inside and out. Patrons will enjoy new chairback seating throughout the lower seating bowl of the arena. In addition, a new permanent upper bowl will also feature five rows of chairback seating. In total, the retrofitted arena will contain over 4,800 chairback seats, an increase of 1,200 chairback seats over its existing configuration."

I wonder how they will pay for the renovations.

They have had a comprehensive facilities improvement program called "Saluki Way" going for quite some time. I suspect the money is already in hand and renovations underway.

It actually started the arena improvements immediately after their final home loss IIRC.

I know about "Saluki Way" but I thought I had read that contributions were running behind projections.

I thought "Saluki Way" was a nutless candy bar shaped like a dog turd.

I am curious how SalukiWay will get funded, given the current circumstances with the men's bb program. http://www.salukitalk.net/st/viewtop...32670&start=60

If it's true that Dillard, Booker and a couple others are out the door, our RPI might not be able to withstand those two-to-three buy games next year.
