Since I sense you will remember this phrase from the 60's, 'Keep on keeping on'.

I watched my father battle Cancer for over 9.5 years only to succomb to it in the end. I don't know if I could have gone through what he did 'for his family', but I am sure glad I had those years with him.

Dildo, dido, ditto (SFL apparently gets a chuckle out of this poster using dido rather than ditto) to all the replies to Aargh.

Inspiration comes in many sizes and packages. Who would have thought this forum would produce such a simple, genuine, spirited, meaningful & impactful message of perspective. Aargh, your inspiration is a true gift to all of us lucky enough to have witnessed your words of wisdom. I am only a recent member of this forum, but thanks for the insight and apparently you have much more work to do. Keep up the good work!!!

          Great news

Congratulations, Aargh. I'm usually quick to complain about items that are totally off topic, but you'll find absolutely no objection from me to your story. It's also interesting that a couple of our posters who are most notable for their continual over-the top complaints (including my very own personal stalker) have not weighed in here. Maybe your news is too good.

I recently lost a good friend to cancer who handled his illness with remarkable grace, and it was impressive to watch his calm on the outside even as it was hard not to wonder what was happening inside his head. Here's hoping you have many more years of Shocker fanhood to come.

                Aargh

Congrats on being cancer free for one year. I too was diagnosed with cancer a little over three years ago, however my situation was less threatening than yours (I think). I believed I would survive and never asked what the odds were. My cancer had spread to the lymph nodes. Six months of chemo therapy destroyed what remained of it.

Cancer has become less life threatening than it once was. Regular screening and early detection are key to fighting cancer. Those of you with a history of cancer in your families should take note.

Great advice Calshockfan, however don't sell yourself short. I lost my father to the big "C" ten years ago...it got into his lymph nodes. I can tell you are a fighter. Again, I am a rookie to this forum. I sat back for about a year reading the posts from all you amazing Shocker fans before deciding to join in the fray. The knowledge and passion is truly remarkable. Many times I have been in awe of many of you & your takes. And sometimes the passion spills over into spirited debates...and even sometimes into keyboard fist fights. At the end of the day we are all human beings with unique stories behind the :goshocks: and the :D and even the  . Keep up the good work everybody & :goshocks:

Ditto from here, sir. My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer last year. Had half of his left lung removed in December, but they think they got all of it.

Here's to a long, healthy, boisterous, Shocker-filled life.

                        Aargh,

Just lost my grandpa a month ago after a long battle with cancer. That hands down was the toughest thing I've been through. Having to watch someone you love so much die a little more each day is very, very difficult...and I wanst even the one having to fight as he did.
I applaud you for your fight and am glad you shared your story. Its good when someone can put things into perspective for people because many times we lose sight of what's is most important and that is our family and friends and life and death. Basketball games are something we share with those people. It gives us something to talk about and rally behind. Its not meant to be a game that people feel the need to throw jabs at one another and insult each others intelligence.
Life is too short people..enjoy the ride and :goshocks:

Aargh, I know first hand from my wife's experience what you have gone through and what guts it takes to face the fear and unknown of that dreaded disease. I'm so happy to hear of your wonderful results. You obviously have maintained a most positive can do attitude throughout and that is so important in winning against that monster.

You have faced it, you have kicked ass, and you will continue to kick ass.

I wish you and your family the very best.
