This ignorance is why the MVC has been a 1 bid league. It is why the Big East is under 500. And why people get sick of our perceived inferiority complex.
Great post. KU, K-State and other BCS-school fans laugh and accuse us of having an inferiority complex, but crap like this is why.
CBS play-by-play Kevin Harlan guy just said this during the UNI/KU game: "Northern Iowa is trying to become the first MVC team to advance to the Sweet 16 since Larry Bird's Indiana State team did it in 1979".
Really?
(I know it was discussed in the game thread but this type of ignorance deserves a new thread.)
What is even worse, Channel 3 sports just said the same thing during their 10 pm sports cast. It was some new idiot that I have never seen before (obviously a new guy).
Jim Kobbe quickly corrected him saying that they were the first MVC Champion to make it to the sweet 16 since 1979. He added that WSU made the sweet 16 just a a few years ago (He didn't add that SIU also did it the very next year).
I guess by champion they mean post-season tourney champ because WSU was also the MVC regular season champ when they went to the sweet 16 in 2006 and when they went to the elite 8 in 1981.
This is such a stupid thing to say anyway. Just another way for some media to make the Valley look like a very minor one bid conference.
Trying to backpedal and say, "Um, we mean the first MVC tournament champion to go to the Sweet 16" is just stupid. WHO CARES WHETHER IT WAS THE TOURNEY CHAMPION OR THE REGULAR SEASON CHAMPION THAT WENT? All that is, is them trying to save face.
Lets see... since 1979 the MVC has had 11 members, and 7 of the 11 have been to the sweet 16 - WSU, Ind St, Bradley, UNI, SIU, Mo St, Tulsa. Plus, several have been on more than one occasion.
KAKE newscast (worst in the city BY FAR) was doing their lead story and the stupid blonde anchor doing the report said something to the effect of "KU fans left disappointed after the loss to IOWA STATE..."
Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

It was also mentioned that Aldrich was the 1st 7 footer Eglseder would face this year.
That's stupid for 2 reasons.
1) of course he faced Stutz
2) Aldrich ain't even 7 damn feet tall and today was the FIRST time I've ever heard an announcer say that he was LOL
It's like they couldn't stand for a little "mid-major" to have a guy bigger than a pre-season All-American on the #1 team in the country.
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!
