  • NCAA Tourney History - Greatest Games

How about a little trip down memory lane?

Name the greatest game you can remember in NCAA Tournament history. I'd like to hear the greatest upsets, but whatever you want.

One of the first games I remember, when I was 9 -- 1992 Duke vs Kentucky and Christian Laettner's last second shot.

E: I didn't go with the 2006 win as I figured that was a given for everyone here.

Come on Doc. Everybody knows the greatest game ever was the Battle of New Orleans.

Here's hoping that WSU has A LOT of new success that will knock the "Battle of New Orleans" down a peg or two. It's a bit sad that we reference 1981 as one of our best games in the NCAA tournament.

It's time to make some new memories!

As a fan of basketball N.C. States NC game comes to mind. I still love watching Valvano running around the court looking for players to hug.

As a fan of Arizona the Cats 3 wins against 3 #1 seeds, especially considering who they were to win the NC was unbelieveable. I still love watching Simon kneeling on the hardwood hugging the basketball.

My favorite two games came right after each other in 1981:
            WSU over Iowa
            and then 66-65!

We will always reference that game because of the opponent, regardless of our future successes.

And if you see one of these  , then it might just be all in fun.

This was quite a while back, but I remember the surprise and the impact from this game better than any else in all my years.

I followed several teams pretty closely and one of them was obviously the smaller school of the bunch. That team lost its best player in December and had a new coach, yet somehow managed to get into the NCAA's and made it to the F4.

That was more surprising than any NC run has ever been. I don't think there was ever much other than a F4 on Gary Thompson's coaching resume.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

How about 15 seed Hampton going on a 14-2 run to end the game and beat 2 seed Iowa State in 2001?

Ironically, that is my dad's WORST memory. When we hosted the baseball tourney a few years ago, there was a set of NCAA tournament highlights the NCAA had sent out, just weird bits of nostalgia from practically any sport, and they had that clip of Valvano running out onto the court in the highlight reel. My dad visibly cringed every time that video played.

My personal greatest game was that Syracuse game from a few years back. Six overtimes. Epic...
Deep in the heart of couldn't give a crap about college basketball-land and I miss the SHOX.
