In their latest issue, dated March 15, they list "96 reasons to love March Madness right now." (In other words, forget about expanding the field).
Reasons 44-46 were: "The state of Kansas"' and its three schools. The headline read: "Why the Sunflower State is becoming the center of college basketball."
And get this. K-State coach Frank Martin was their source and -- before even talking about KU and K-State -- told writer Derek Samson:
"There's great tradition here. The game of basketball was invented in Kansas. Wichita State used to be a top 20 program. Mark Turgeon got it going again while he was at Wichita, and Gregg Marshall has continued it."
Mr. Martin just rose quite a few notches in my eyes. It's nice to be acknowledged, even if a lot of their fans won't admit we exist.
