It's been a couple of years since I discussed recruiting with people involved in the D1 process (i.e. not since the additional tournaments were added), but it isn't impossible to imagine it affecting the recruiting process. I think there is a very real status consideration to keep in mind.
I supported our decision last year to play in the CBI because of the number of underclassmen and because of the additional court time and experience it offered. However, by my count there are 7 sophomores or juniors (upperclassmen next year) on Bradley's roster, and 3 seniors. More experience than WSU, and I would be supportive if Marshall wanted to skip the CBI this year.
To those pointing to the additional practice time, I would put forth that a practice is not a practice is not a practice - i.e. time on the court at the end of a season (particularly one that is less successful than expected) where guys are burnt out from traveling can be WAY less productive than preseason or even deep in the season when there are still incentives in conference and the conference tournament.
I think any coach would tell you that practices without incentive have the potential to be poor, and that no practice (especially at the end of the season) is preferable to poor practices where bad habits are reinforced.
I'm skeptical about Les' ability to get fired without, say, 3 straight years of Friday play-in games and below .500 record. Similar to Randy in terms of "favorite son" status and what it would take to push him aside. Just my opinion.
Last thing - I like Ellis, I think he makes us better, and I'm glad we have him on the team. But if there's anybody on here that wouldn't trade him straight up for Carmichael right now, please identify yourself so we can lock you in the ShockerNet bat-troom with Eddie Mush and Dofo.

As was mentioned above, had we not had such a young team that would have really benefitted from the CBI games last year I wouldn't have been opposed to skipping it. And if it's going to lose money for the University you can't fault them for not participating with the current economic woes.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
