I also thought DW sitting down killed our offense. He is the only guy quick enough to break down his defender. Without that, UNI just doesn't let you get a good look.
He was also the only guard quick & long enough to contain KA.

When he picked up his 4th (right in front of Janssen), I told The Mentor we were in big trouble.

Don't get me wrong - I am a big time CH fan. But he physically wasn't strong or quick enough to handle KA.

Speaking of KA - he is a first class asshat.

His trash talking during the game got old. Just shut your pie hole and play the game.

WSU needs to file that crap away and pull out when Stutz puts another Ricks-type screen on him next year. 8)
Above all, make the right call.

SR - Without Kyles, we were basically down to 4 players covering 3 positions. Normally, that might not be a problem, unless both CH and DW get into foul trouble and in this game's case, we were needing DW for his fire power as well since little offense was coming from TM (foul problems as well) and GH (little offense until late). Could KJ have helped defensively on KA? I know we would have given up some on offense, but midway through the 2nd half, we were needing someone to chew up some minutes to protect DW, CH, and TM. Just a thought.

The officiating was abysmal. Why call just 1 in 5 blocking fowls while CH is trying to bring it down the floor? Seriously, I don't get it. They blocked him every single time he brought it down and they only called it a few times. When they did call it, it was only after they had been doing it for 5 or 6 seconds. I feel for Hannah because he simply gets mugged out there and the refs allow it to happen simply because of his size. A fowl is a fowl regardless of how short the player is you are commiting it on.

UNI will have big problems in the tourney if they get a crew that knows even a semblance of the rules or are atleast consistant in how they call the game.

I thought our guys were going to get injured in the first 2 minutes of the game when they were having their legs taken out from under them on rebounds or pushed when they came down with them. Missing those first three calls and several more throughout were simply dumbfounding.
Don't tell me you didn't see the frustration on our players' faces in regards to many of the calls and saying the officiating was good?

With that rant being said...UNI was clearly the better team yesterday

Did DW call the fouls on himself?

The cognitive disconnect there is astounding.

DW didn't call them but he committed them.

Creighton losing was just the start of a pretty good weekend in St. Louis. I remember before the Bradley - Creighton game I made a quick run to the restroom, and the Creighton students were chanting "1.9" to all WSU fans walking by.

When Creighton got demolished by Bradley, every Shocker fan knew that the weekend was going to be a good one.

Of course it didn't have the perfect ending we all wanted; our guys were definitely tired and that came into play the last 10 minutes. UNI is a good team, but they weren't as worn down as we were, judging by minutes played in the games before. Also, the lack of David Kyles really hurt us in our last game, when our guards all got into foul trouble and having another one really would have helped.

The loss should be overshadowed by the play from Stutz and Williams. At the start of the season, who really expected that Stutz would make the All-MVC Tournament team? Who even expected that midway through the season? When Williams went in, it used to put fear into many fans.. now we're anxious to see what he can do on the court and loving his defense and how fast he can drive the ball down the court.

We have a lot to look forward to, and this season isn't even over yet.

Really! That call was at least this big a pile.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the officiating caused the 12 scoreless minutes. However, it sure didn't help. How do GS and DW get 4 fouls? I'm not saying they didn't commit them, I'm saying there were just as many fouls NOT called on UNI. Are you telling me that DW and GS fouled more than UNI? I refuse to believe it. I recognized Sanzere and at least one of the other officials, I know it was a "good" crew. Good crew or not, I don't think it was an equally officiated game.

I take offense to Sanzere being called a good official. I think he is terrible, I really do. I can't pinpoint it but I know I'm always thinking bad call whether I see that little man on t.v. with two teams I couldn't care less about or in person at Koch.

As far as the officiating effecting the game, get over it. Officals are humans, just part of the game. Some calls are perfect, some are terrible, some go in your favor, and some don't.

I understand the "conference seems to be against us" argument, but WSU winning yesterday would benefit the conference and everyone in it. I just fail to see any incentive to "screw" WSU yesterday. Am I missing something?

If anyone really thinks the officials cost us the game yesterday then they're just clueless.
