  • Screw in the Lou (One year later)

Just got back from St. Louis…Disappointed we couldn't pull of the win, but still very proud of our team.

The one thing I found interesting was how obsessed Creighton fans were with 1.9 seconds, not only that but for some reason the Valley thought it would be a good idea to show replays from the end of that game and highlight it as a great Valley Tourney game/moment. That was at the halftime of the CU/BU game and the Creighton fans thought it would be a good idea to taunt the WSU fans by chanting “Play it one more time” over and over again...too bad their team collapsed in the second half… It was nice to see their section completely empty, with exception of some Shocker fans who bought some of their seats for the rest of the sessions.

But one stat I do think is interesting; since last years game...Creighton has gone 0-2 in St. Louis losing by an average of 21.5 points per game. On the other hand, WSU has gone 2-1. Here's hoping the trend continues.

Obsessed is correct. We sat right next to their student section during their loss and the 1.9 chant was getting real old. How bout watching your own game aholes?

I don't think anything else matters to them now...That game was their Superbowl. They've never won an NCAA tournament game, so they have to hang their hat on something...

Ya know the air inside the arena was better this week end because the creighton faithful were not there to foul it with their tight ass smugness.

They f**ked with karma in 2006 with their Official Sponsor of the NIT signs and they got destroyed.

They screwed with karma last year (and continuing into this year) and now they're praying for a CIT bid, while we were an NCAA bubble team playing on Championship Sunday.

They are a combination of extremely retarded/extremely alcoholic/extremely insecure fans.

It was fun watching them get destroyed on Friday. A double success in St. Louis this year!

I'm glad someone brought up "the Screw in the Lou" again. Maybe I'm just looking at it through yellow glasses, but I sure thought the overall officiating was worse this game than against CU in either game this year or last year's tournament game. I'm just wondering if this game was against CU, would opinions be different? I'm proud of our guys, I'm looking forward to where ever we go next, I just wonder why Shrek NEVER gets called for anything, i.e. travelling, 3 seconds in the lane, FOULS!!! I'm sure I'll take a ripping for this since I blame the officials for every game, but it was pretty obvious to me from the get go that the Shox were going to have to beat 8 guys again this game. I think they got worn down because they were getting beaten up every trip down the floor. How does one guy(number 11 if I remember right) shoot more FT's on his own than the Shox do?

I knew the 'blame the refs' rant was unavoidable but when you're on the wrong end of a 23-3 run, trust me, it ain't the refs.

Did they miss a travel or foul on Ogre?
                  Probably.

Did it affect the outcome of the game?
Not when you lose by 15 - and on the wrong end of a 23-3 run at crunch time!

The final game crew was as good as it gets.
The only official who worked during the tournament and might have improved the Sunday crew (Mike Stuart) was working an SEC game.

WSU was simply worn out and the better, deeper team won. Period. 8)
Above all, make the right call.

SR, I thought it was a good crew on Sunday as well. My opinion was they let both teams play VERY physical ball, and in the end that was more to UNI's advantage than ours.

The refs didn't make us miss from the field for 12 minutes, I think it was a combo of DW going out with 4 fouls and simply running out of gas. We had two barn burners in the quarters and semis and they had two blowouts.

I also thought DW sitting down killed our offense. He is the only guy quick enough to break down his defender. Without that, UNI just doesn't let you get a good look.

Having Stutz going to the bench with his fourth foul seemed to turn the tide as well.

However, I gotta say the body check a UNI player gave JT early in the game that made him go out of bounds was an obvious missed call. Of course that didn't affect the game but the officials missed it nonetheless. Let's not pretend they are perfect either.

The Shocks played 110 minutes of pretty solid, intense basketball. UNI plays a style the makes you work and grind. Between the foul trouble and fatigue the Shocks hit a wall. There is really nothing you do in the regular season to prepare you for the grind of these post-season tournaments.

Shocks did the best they have done in a couple of decades. This year's experience will serve the Shocks well in next year's MVC Tournament.

Looking forward to seeing what we can do in the NIT (most likely) which is no where near the grind of the MVC Tournament. Hopefully, the guys come out free and loose and have some fun.

Any additional games we get will be beneficial to our young guys. Hopefully, we get at least one at home.
