  • Lowery going bye-bye?

Lot's of rumors from what are purported to be credible sources that Lowery has already accepted the DePaul job.

If true, you have to assume who they really want is assistant Lance Irvin who has an established Chicago recruiting pipeline. I guess they figure being a Big East bottom-feeder will attract more local talent than what Lowery/Irvin delivered to Carbondale.

Could be. I definately think Lowery will be run out of town regardless. Last year he could blame it on inexperience, but they at least finished middle of the pack. To have the players he has back this year and actually regress to one of the worst teams in the Valley....that's a death sentence.

Just last week their AD said Lowery will be the coach next year unless he leaves to take another job. The way it was worded almost made it sound like the AD already knew something was going down.

Lowery hasn't been able to recruit players wanting to play his style of BB to SIU. Doubt he will do any different at any place he lands. I think we are seeing the Peter Principle in effect.

What an embarrassing hire this would be for DePaul. An MVC coach who is a year away from getting run out of town.

Think they'd take Joey Meyer back now? Sheesh.

There was a post on SalukiTalk from someone who seemed to have some personal knowledge of the players, their personalities and practice habits. He claims the issue is that while the players are talented they are not hard workers and think more highly of themselves than they should. That should reflect on the coach almost as much as the players.

I give that person some credibility because based on what I've seen of that team, it makes sense. That could also explain why DePaul isn't scared off by his recent record. Of course, there's also the issue of the many talented players who haven't made it more than one or two years in Carbondale under Lowery's watch.

If the rumors are true, I have to believe that the DePaul AD is getting hung up on a lot when making inquiries and figure their best bet is to get a Chicago recruiter they can afford on the payroll and roll the dice.

And to make matters worse, it sounds like he threw his lone senior under the bus after the game, saying something along the lines of "we needed our senior tonight and he didn't show up."

Now one of their more knowledgeable posters, MSNSaluki, is saying he can find no one to corroborate any such rumors, of which one source came from another poster whose info came from a friend on the board of trustees.

Furthermore, MSN claims Booker is likely to transfer and it isn't 100% that Dillard will return.

If that is all true . . .

                  Abyss, indeed.

                    I'd take Booker.

I like what Sully had to say today on his chat when asked what kind of program HCGM might be tempted to leave for:

                      "He wouldn't go to Depaul"

                      :D

Had drinks with an SIU administrator after the game. She said they haven't been the same since their #1 Asst. Coach took the Southern Indiana job. She believes Lowrey has one more year to turn the ship around, and would get tossed as much because of his salary as anything. She says things are very tough financially at SIU, and the entire college is in disarray under an aging Chancellor and wacky new Prez. I give her some cred because she really likes President Beggs.

Actually the state appropriations for education for the entire state of Illinois are a mess right now, so every school in Illinois is having to struggle with where to make ends meet.
