  • Demetric Williams

I figured there was enough discussion of him going on that it deserved its own thread.

I think we have our PG for the next 3 years. Probably still need to recruit a JuCo PG for competition for PT and for backup, but DW is starting to look like the real deal.

A Fr PG is always a problem. There's too much for a Fr to learn and too much to adjust to D1 ball for a Fr to ever look good as a PG unless it's late in the season.

Late in the season, DW looks like he knows and understands the system and the players and can run the offense in addition to being a scoring threat himself. I like the way he looks and especially the progress he's made this year.

I'm not convinced that DW is de facto the starter next year if we get a high quality JUCO point guard, but I do believe that he will have a legit chance to beat out anyone we bring in for the position.

If Williams keeps improving in the MVC tourney and other post-season play, it allows the coaching staff to have more room to take the best available player between JUCO and high school players for the final scholarship, instead of absolutely needing a JUCO player to come in.

Agree. I've been very pleased with his play of late and feel he can be a very good PG for this team in the future...as long as he keep working on his D!

It certainly appears that he's worked himself into contention for the 10-11 season. The key to his development will be his MTXE in the off season (i.e. devotion to learning/mastering the offense, improving his physical conditioning, & basketball skill improvement).

I believe he is more than capable of succeeding.

that dribble drive, and then pull up jumper at the free throw line yesterday was pretty sweet.

I hate to disagree because i want DW to succeed and he has gotten better this year. However, if we are to be a great team next year, we need a juco point guard. i also believe that if Kenny M. wakes up and figures it out, he can get DW's minutes in the future. DW's shot is not reliable, and he really needs to bulk up and get stronger. I'm a DW fan but GM knows he needs big help ag PG next year.

You need to go to a game about 45 minutes early and watch KJ's shot, during the warm-ups.

Believe me, it ain't a thang of beauty.

Besides, while I have not check the stats, I believe DW's FG % has improved quite a bit over the last 6-8 games or so.

Over the past few games, I no longer get edgy and nervous when DW is running the point. He still makes a few rookie mistakes, like with his turnovers yesterday, but overall he no longer plays like a freshman. While HCGM certainly may still want to bring in a juco PG for competition and depth, right now I have few qualms if DW is our primary point guard starting next year.

Lets hope we get him at least five more games of experience this year!

Asking a juco kid to come in here, learn all of Coach's stuff, and play major minutes, is a tall oreder, Nowadays. Clevin had to do just that, as he was the only warm body. Kenny still looks like a redshirt or transfer to me. Demetric need to hit the weights, but he looks more and more like "the guy" to me.

He's getting there. A summer in the weight room and time working on his shot and strength should do wonders. He's on his way but isn't there yet. I--like many others think he's much closer to getting there through his nice efforts late in the season. As others have said, having a competitor for the position is a good thing too. Just to make sure he knows he's not yet a lock for anything.

The future is still pretty bright, even with Clevin having to leave us, and I think it's helped for DW to see how important Clevin's role has been throughout the season.

last 6 games, Demetric is shooting 12-18 from the field, which includes 5 for 9 from the 3 point land, and is averaging 6 PPG during that span.

coach has said that he wants 3 pgs. So I don't think it's a question of IF we get a JUCO point guard. I don't think DW will be ready to go 30 mins per game right away next year. I have a feeling we'll get a JUCO point guard and Hannah's minutes and productivity will be divided among them next year. At least until 1 or the other show they can be relied upon for more minutes and productivity.

I do think DW will probably get the start at PG next year just because he has experience at the D1 level. However, the minutes will be pretty even at first. If KJ can improve to give maybe even 5-10 minutes next year then I don't think we'll be hurting at point guard at all.
