  • How can you call yourself a true fan...

when you speak so negative about the young men who give their all(time, blood, sweat and tears) to represent you.You think these young men go out with the intention of having a bad game, I don't think so.We all have good to great days and bad to worst days.I don't understand the logic sometime, hammering kids on shockernet. You think the kids don't read what you write.I generally stop by and look in to see what's going on sometime, but most times I don't want the negative enery to start my day ,it really affects me.I read how you demoralize your athletes and think to myself,I really don't want to be a part of that,so I stay away. The more I read the more I realize it's part of the culture.Beat down Durley,Hatch, and Murry the cornerstone of next year's team,Hammer Greg Marshall every step of the way he didn't win but 25 games and that's unacceptable, and Garrett Stutz  , I can take it when another team does it because all is fair but when its your own shocker family, wow. They say nobody can take you down like family.I feel your passion but try giving some encouragement sometime. You've done the negative the whole year up to this point now lets try something else.Shockerfever, I don't know you but I read you and have come to the conclusion that as a fan if you consider yourself one your fan Prouty Rating Is an F-.You suck.

Because most of the people on here think that because they watch the basketball games, they know more than the man paid to coach.

Because the people here would whine and moan if we went undefeated with a National Title. They would still demand some young man be unceremoniously tossed out into the cold...

I think there is a lot of positive write ups. However, there are a few who dominate the board with their slants. Just keep in mind the people who vent may have no other avenue to express their feelings. I rather they take their frustration out on the board than to the post office. Anyway good post.
Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, and Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time.

Because we know and believe we have a great coach. Because we know and believe Toure could be the most dominant player in the MVC. Because we know and believe that when Durley plays hard he's damn near unguardable. Because of these things, we expect nothing less. When our team plays down to inferior coaching and inferior talent they are not giving their blood, sweat and tears.

Feel free not to read the posts. I hope the team does. I've rarely ever heard someone call a player talentless. I've heard their effort, decision-making and will questioned. Marshall says when his players play a perfect game he'll quit coaching. When they play a perfect game, we'll quit bitching. In the meantime we expect them to play at a level equal to the high regard in which they're held.

Whah, whah, you want some cheese with that whine? We've lost many a game because this team has clearly demonstrated lack of focus and effort. If you argue otherwise, then you are sadly mistaken.

We alll know what this team is capable of doing on the court, and when the team demonstrates lack of focus and effort, it makes people mad. How many times have we all read in the paper comments from the guys who essentially said they did not match or exceed the intensity of the opponent. At Bradley, against Evansville and Drake. The players admit it so why get mad at some SN posters who see it, hear it and read it and then write something about it?

You are a day late and a dollar short with your criticism and totally off base.

I think some of these people are just satisfied with us being mediocre. I think some of us are happy if we just remain in competitive games and not get blown out, no matter the opponent. I think some of us are underrating the carelessness, at times, from this team. I think some of us think our head coach can't make a mistake.

6-6 in the last 12 games with losses to Drake and Evansville, a near sweep by Evansville, and being down 19 points in 8 minutes to a team that was fighting to stay out of the play-in rounds will cause some people to get upset. Not being upset at these types of things makes me wonder if some people even understand the concept of basketball.

Because we're fans, a derivative of the word fanatic:

a person motivated by irrational enthusiasm (as for a cause); "A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject"--Winston Churchill

fanaticism - excessive intolerance of opposing views

It's kinda like asking why a movie or restaurant critic can be so critical of something you hold so dear, like "Caddyshack" or the fries at McDonald's.

We don't mean to be mean (well, most of us), we're just irrationally enthusiastic and intolerant of opposing views.

Hey, consider how fans deal with their sports stars down in South America -- someone tanks a game down there, members of their family go missing, players get riddled with bullets outside a bar...here, we just question their manhood or insult their upbringing. Sticks and Stones...

So I'm confused, what are the rules for behavior again? Am I in or out? It's just too confusing. ;-)

well almost any major level, whether be D1 college basketball to any major professional teams there will be people that want that certain team to be perfect in any kind of way, they dont get excited for a win, but get pissed about the losses. Its just the nature of the beast, and there will always be fans that never criticize the team, and think they will do no wrong.

if there were not controversial issues to discuss their would be purpose of a fan message board. At the end of the day, we're all fans that want nothing more than for our teams and players to be successful. It's the underachievment that drives us mad and I'm sure this is not confined to WSU.

Booing the shockers isn't right. Unfortunately, it is inevitable that a few will.

If shockernet posters gave half the effort the basketball players give, we could actually get some good posts around here.

                            some are optimist....some are fatalist....

all of us though think we are pragmatic in what we opine about our basketball team...For the most part I can co-exist with both and at times I am on both sides of these proverbial fences...

I dont care for the one on one battles that take over threads and ruin thought provoking discussion...all in the name of "I am smarter than you", "If you cant see that your an idiot, blind, ignorant or have no knowledge of the game" and I am right and you are wrong" ....

for the most part Im fataly optimistic...
