    Pogo,
Given your reasoning, then there shouldn't be Div II or III

Then let's have Washburn and Ft Hays in the Valley.

Do it like the Premier league. The weakest conference each year gets bumped out of the highest division and the best division one the rung down gets to come up!
This works in theory, but only if the television exposure is equal and the scheduling is done by a neutral. Teams like Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, etc., are able to produce recruiting machines by delivering regular national television exposure and guaranteed wins that are bought and paid for. This idea is a good one if you can prevent those teams from gaming the system.

But the NCAA makes too much money on the tournament alone to do anything of the sort. In fact, they are greedy enough to consider expanding the tournament just to see if they can pump some extra revenue out of people. I don't see them shrinking down to a more refined product.

Damn good idea but I doubt it will ever happen since every member school has an equal vote and the non-power conference schools will never go for it. Totally different than football since basketball is much less expensive for a school.

This is an absolutely GREAT idea!

          1. The BCS has too keep some lesser schools around in high D1. If they didn't, and only played each other then you'd end up perennial winners, and perennial losers. Sorry programs like Nebraska and Colorado will put up with 13-16 most of the time when they can buy a bunch of wins, but it would never fly if it was 5-24 every year. You just can't have a BCS team be perennialy sorry... their brothers would never let that happen.

          2. Our non-con home schedule would get soooo much better. All you have to do is look at KSU football's upcoming schedules. Because of the strong competion for non-con buy-in games, they are having to play non-con road games. In the next year or two they are playing home and home with North Texas and Central Florida... last season with Louisiana Lafayette. Not every BCS school can affort to buy every home game like Texas. The less rich would have to play home and home with the WSU's of the world on equal terms.

I think the bottom 150 have almost ruined college basketball with their whoring for a paycheck. If you can't afford to play non-con home games, you shouldn't be D1. Period!

It will happen sooner or later. It has been moving in that direction since the formation of the BCS. It's that, we're better than you mentality, that is so despised, and yet, is so prevalent here on ShockerNet. And when it happens, WE WILL NOT BE D-1. We are just not good enough. If you don't believe me, just ask the mildcats and chickenhawks. I'm sure they will be more than happy to tell you how we don't belong in their club.

"Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.
