UNI has also lost to Bradley.

Northern Iowa fell to last place Evansville tonight. My advice to Panthers: Win the Valley tournament. No need for extraneous suspense.
Probably bad news for the MVC schools thinking that UNI might rollover in the tournament and then the MVC could get 2 teams into the NCAA. There is no way that UNI can feel comfortable with an at-large at this moment

Yes. While I was watching SIU implode against CU muted on FSN, I was listening to the Evansville internet stream and they made the comment at the buzzer "the students are rushing the court".

Not only is this a bad UNI loss, it's a bad loss for the MVC but a good win for the Aces. It's the first win against a ranked opponent ever.

Except that it would have to be in the finals since they are on opposite sides of the bracket.

                Dillard didn't play for SIU?

                No wonder they lost.

If UNI makes the MVC tourney final, they have to be in, right?

Haha, we all split with each other, so it's a three-way race for best! That's statistically unreal that the last place team in the league would split with ONLY the 1st and 2nd teams in the league. That's a first for sure.

                      UNI

The UNIs were playing their first game after clinching the conference championship, were without their big man, and were facing a team that plays obnoxious defense and has suddenly realized it's possible to win.

This was a surprise, but hardly a shock. Even though some of our perpetually agitated posters have yet to figure it out, WSU is not the only team that once in a while takes the night off mentally -- and not all coaches to whom it happens are overpaid bunglers. It happens in the best of programs, although the truly elite teams sometimes have the advantage of having so much talent they can get away with it and still escape with a win.

UNI doesn't, though, and this was a nasty little blemish on a resume that already contained a loss to DePaul. This will probably sharpen their focus on the Valley tournament, and that plus the return of the Big Egg is likelty to make them a handful in St. Louis. WSU matches up well with them (although not as well with no Kyles off the bench), and if the Shocks can get to a final against UNI will have a legitimate chance to beat them. But you can bet the UNIs won't be coasting.

I messed up earlier when I forgot that Bradley beat UNI. I need to re-think my logic. If WSU can't win the tourny, I'm now pulling for Evansville. I would love to see that record in the NCAA field.

UNI wasn't playing at home on a nationally televised game on ESPN either. UNI going into that high school gym obviously were looking past this team and it bit them in the arse. Not having their 7 footer didn't help matters. Something tells me that that if they had their 7 footer, he would have scored enough points to make up the one point differential.

I guess we can make all the excuses we want for them or against them...No body else played them on National TV, Everyone else walked into that HS gym, If you want to plug in Egg into the game for them fine ...you have to un plug someone else from the game who is that? Their insided guys didnt get alot of touches....but they went 5 for 23 from 3pt range..but made 17 of 18 FT...if it wasnt for a 30ft 3pt bucket by NIU it wouldnt havve been as close either. down by 2 with 25 seconds left they chose not to foul either....lots of reasons why they lost or could of won. NIU shouldnt need Egg to win that game either hell its Evansville.....

My point is they arent quite as bad as everyone might think they are and they got a little moxie now and have nothing to lose...I dont think anyone would want to see them in St. Louis...

Evansville is a bad team period. 6 of their 8 wins came in the non-conference portion of their schedule.

                                Non-D1 team
                                319
                                211
                                308
                                269
                                338

These are the RPI's of the teams they beat in the non-con schedule.

Also, losing 14 in a row in conference play and 11 of the 20 games thy lost were by 10 points or more means they are a bad team. You can say EU is not as good as people think, but the facts tell a different story.

EU didn't beat UNI and us, we beat ourselves. Our loss to them is one of the most embarassing in our history and by gosh, I hope that the next time we face these guys, they know not to overlook them and give the same effort when playing EU as they would if they were playing UNI or Creighton.
