    For the students

Also, work with barn'rds to sponsor a "student of the game". Have them win a free sandwich. Nothing gets students going like free food.

I think we could just sing old catchy songs like, piano man, or stuff like that. Can you imagine the whole crowd singing songs like that at the same time? There minds would not be all there!!!

I don't like copying the Boston Red Sox or Florida State but I enjoyed singing "Sweet Caroline" at the volleyball games this season.

I just wish it happened every game...not just most.

How about a cheer: "Your Mom was better than you'll ever be!"... "Your mother is very disappointed in how you turned out"...?
Sorry, I'm not good at cheers.

But Black and Yellow cards, arranged in the student section in a checkerboard pattern and then flipped in sequence to a beat provided by the pep band - even if it doesn't distract the foul shooter, it'd look great on TV... :good:

I don't believe the pep band is allowed to play during gameplay, including free throws. Besides, I'm betting the students would actually like to see what's happening on court.

Okay, we've got some good ideas here. I'm still of the opinion that mixing up tactics would provide maximum distraction for the enemy free throw shooter.

The problem with that is coordination. We'd have to have some student leaders who would take the point (so to speak) on this. Us Frogs ("Friggin' Old GuyS) could help with materiel support (I'LL chip in to buy black/yellow cards or print out cheat sheets), but it's the crazies on the north end that do the actual work, and we'd need someone there to organize and direct.

Moreover, wouldn't it be nice if we could sweet-talk the people behind the south basket to do some of this too? I realize the closer you get to the court down there the more likely you're going to run into missing lungs, bypasses, and hip problems, but I've seen some truly obnoxious fans in the lower bowl, and most of them are over twice MY age.

Last point is that this sort of planning needs to be done in the off-season, preferably after school starts in the fall. We need people who WILL be back and WILL carry through come November. It's good to get the ball rolling, and busting out some new moves for SIU or any NIT game we may get at home is never a bad thing, but this is a WSU fan-culture attitude we want to change.

                          :wsu_posters: :yahoo:

How it all developed at Utah State

Utah State has always had a good crowd. I mean, as far as i can remember, we've had decent numbers and very creative students with lots of traditions. It's interesting to look back and see how our traditions have changed over time.

Somewhere around 1989-90 we played UNLV who, at the time, was ranked #1 in the nation. Jerry Tarkanian, Larry Johnson, Stacy Augmon, ect... As you'll be able to tell from the clip I'll post we HATED each other. Our teams even got in huge brawls. Well a couple of engineering students managed to get into the spectrum and rigged a remote controlled explosive water device in the heat vent under the Tarkanian's chair and the UNLV bench. They filled the water bomb with navy blue dye and water. At a certain point they detonated the device and blue water soaked Tarkanian and the Rebels (last part of the clip). After the game Tark called the prank "ingenious". He loved it. I can't imagine what would happen in this day and age with Sportcenter and youtube and all. It'd be talked about nationally. But it only got a small amount of press back in the day.

                            Here's the UNLV clip:

Heated rivalry in 1990 lead's to multiple fist fights, blood, and "the water balloon" rigging in The Spectrum.

We had a tradition that when our team scored the first basket against BYU the crowd would rain down toilet paper rolls from everywhere and flood the court. We got a technical foul everytime. But it was expected.

An Old Aggie Tradition when the first basket against BYU was scored.

Things got a little bit less crazy as the 90's progressed. Then in 2000 we were 17-0 in Big West play and playing Boise State at home with a chance to run the table in the conference. Late in the game we got a 2 on 1 fast break and Troy Rolle iced the game by dunking over a BSU player. The Spectrum erupted and a new generation of The Spectrum was born

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

That was the beginning of what we have now. We had a great record that year. Lost to #4 Florida by 2 points, beat USC. Ran the table in conference. The fans were willing to believe we were starting something. Then it basically took just a couple of student with the guts to amp things up. An ex-football player turned athletics vice president began a campaign basically by himself to inject more school spirit into the arena. He came up with the idea of selling game day shirts. Blue Aggie T-shirts, a new one for each season. Students bought into it. Pretty soon everyone was wearing Navy blue to the games. Next he got the words to the fight song and the scotsman put up on the video board and after a while of encouragement people started singing them and doing the arm motions. Everyone loved yelling "where the sagebrush grows" at the top of thier lungs.

Then another group of guys came up with the refraction. The gameday newsletter. This took the crowd to another level. They organized the chants. Did trial runs with a smaller group of people. If it sounded good they would put into the refraction and see if the whole crowd would do it.

The I believe chant that we did before the Wichita State game was only the third try at that chant. Two games before a small group of people under the basket did it. Then the Louisiana Tech game they tried to get the crowd to do it. Some did. Some didn't. By the Wichita State game eveyone liked it and was ready to do it.

Utah State University Aggies Basketball Fans Chant "I Believe That We Will Win" 2/20/2010 vs. Wichita St.

The winning team, losing team chant started the same way.

It took time and a couple of guys with good ideas to have some guts to try to get everyone to help them out.

Sorry about all the links I know somebody said they were sick of USU fans and thier links. I just thought they were relevant to what I was talking about and you could follow better.

You guys have a great crowd. And to be honest sometimes I wish we'd just GET LOUD more than the organized cheers.
