Why should he have to eat the truth. Our crowd does well at attending and gets loud when the team goes on a 3 - 4 minute stretch of great play or if the crowd gets mad at the refs. Other than that, it's a very quiet, subdued bunch. I'm amazed at the times I look around and see so many people sitting on their tails at important times of the game.

Sorry you're feelings are hurt by the truth.
What an overnight transformation our reputation has undergone since AAA-Gate. Koch Arena used to be a point of pride with Shocker fans. It was said that nobody in the MVC can come close to the environment in Wichita. Claims were tossed around that no place in America is louder. Then one of the many WSU basketball coaches over the last 100 years decides to call Koch Arena minor league and people just capitulate.

Isn't it ironic that only a few nights before, HCGM relied heavily on this same AAA bunch of minor leaguers to help him win a game by a whisker that should have been won by a mile?

Yes, it's too bad that some well-spoken, sincere individual that stands up and yells every game until his voice is gone, didn't call in and tell Mr. Marshall to go procreate with himself.

Yo have a phone ...that has a dial tone ? Step on up there. Wanna make him eat it ? Here is your chance.......did'nt think so
I'm not emotionally involved enough to make the effort. But I would think there are plenty of Shocker fans out there, who disagree with HCGM's thoughtless comparison, that are. I'm so far removed from the situation I might as well be on the moon. I couldn't have called in if I wanted to. :)

I wasn't available to call in. Of course, I've never called in before. Maybe some of us don't need to turn and twist things more than our coach has done a couple of times.

Regardless, I listened to bits of the show and was pretty ok with what coach said. Lotta softballers though..

It's hard for a crowd to get into the game 7 days after our NCAA at-large chances were dashed in a loss to a previously 0-14 Evansville team. Oh, and our team was down to that same team for the majority of the second half.

Our fans/crowd saved our team/coach in that game ironically.

??? Because being an anonymous caller is so much more wickedly bold than being an anonymous poster on Shockernet ???

Why didn't the host bring it up? Do they not read Shockernet or Shockwaves?

I imagine most of the people questioning the AAA statement are working.
Speaking of which, is there a podcast of the show?

                  Thanks
Yes, that is it. Every single person that was whining about the AAA thing was working....surrreeee. Maybe a few were, but I highly doubt every single one of you have the exact same shift.

You guys are pathetic....that's all there is too it. Some of you just need something to complain about. Those complaining must know that they are being ridiculous and just didn't want coach to tell you over the radio. Has to be something. Why else would you be SO mad but not ask him to explain himself?
Maybe you're too blind to notice, but our coach did a lot of complaining in the last week. Some of it to the people who are at every game, helping to pay his near million dollar a year salary.

Are you morphing into Mrs. Marshall?

I think you wanted the question asked more than anybody else.

Actually, I still believe that our crowd is the best in the Valley, and I've been to quite a few of the arenas. I also believe it is far better than most crowds in the nation. I am only talking about comparing it to Utah State. That is, from what I've seen in watching several of their games this year, an amazing crowd. Lets face it. They have 4000 student seats (40% of their crowd) that are full every night (except during the Holidays). We have 1100 students seats (10%) that very seldom are full of students. Their student section has numerous tremendous cheers. Far better than "you still suck". Hopefully our student section will attempt to improve in the future.

Let's face it. We have a different situation than many universities and under the circumstances I'm very pleased with what we accomplish. I believe Coach Marshall has made it clear that he appreciates the support we give as well. The fact is that we do not measure up to Utah State for atmosphere. Be that as it may, we are darn good.

There are other ways to chat with HCGM other than the call in show...

Additionally, Sulley's follow-up blog post on the matter stated the comment was not to be taken as a slight on the fans.

I have said all I am going to say on the matter in the AAA breaking news thread.

I want to make a brief comment on what it will take to get our student section heading in the direction of USUs. Maybe because of demographics we'll never get there, but improvement is possible.

Someone brought up a "Super Fan" to be the new face of the student section. But in my opinion, we need the exact opposite. We need a handful of people willing to do the dirty work behind the scenes to get the student section more creative. The USU student paper "Refraction" was one thing that gets a significant amount of effort, and I imagine a lot of people don't even know who work on it. We need people to do similar out-of-the-spotlight work to create a change in the way things occur. But it will have to go beyond a student paper to get it done.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

I think there are a lot more than 3,000 traditonal age students at WSU.

The apartments nearby and the housing south of 17th are filled with traditional aged students. The #s go way beyond the on-campus housing the the Greek letter organizations.

I think it is possible to get 2,000 or more students at games, but that would mean we need a bigger arena, and that won't happen for quite a while.

MTXE, there is a difference between the crowd as a whole and the creativity of the student section.

There have been long running threads on Shockernet bemoaning the lack of creativity out of our student section long before Marshall made the AAA comment. Our reputation hasn't changed one bit. It always has been loud, with an average student section.

If you listened to the show, you get a distinct impression that somebody has talked to Coach Marshall (at least I do). There were some comments about the "great WSU fans" and he made it clear that he understands that the fans "care" and that some "care" alot.

This all might be new to him because I don't know whether at Winthrop they ate and slept basketball like this town does.
