Ok so when he is asked a question about the atmosphere at Utah state, whats he suppose to do? Change the subject?

LOL Their atmosphere kicks our atmosphere's butt. It is what it is. People are so damn sensitive. You all want Marshall to grow thick skin? Maybe you should do the same first!

        Wow!!!
I'm a HUGE HCGM supporter, but not only was that a stupid thing for him to say, but it was amazingly uncalled for and wrong. One thing Shocker fans have pride in after losing a few tough games is their continued support of Shocker athletics. He sucker punched that pretty good.

He seems to be taking out his frustrations out on the fans. He talks about his dislike of people focusing on the negative, yet he has been pretty critical and negative of the fans lately.

How about some support for the very fans that have his and his team's back and come out to support his program.

He needs to explain his comment. Very disappointed in his comment regarding AAA fan support. Wonder what he thinks of the rest of the Valley if WSU is AAA? Why is he coaching at a AAA supported program? What's that say about him?

Regarding USU's fans support. I love it. 4,000 students in sync. What a great environment. I wish WSU and USU were in the same conference.

I didn't boo that un-inspired mess the other night. In fact I shot a guy a look when he was booing. Enough fan insults. Marshall got support when he hasn't given the fans anything but losing seasons. We get a winning season and it is blown.
Or this could be solved and the team could do something on offense instead of passing around the perimeter until we can jack a 3 as the shot clock expires.
I agree with the offensive output issue. Here's a question for everyone to ponder... (I'm sure it's been mentioned before)

Are we as good as we thought earlier in the year, or were we pretty mediocre (clearly not BAD, just mediocre or slightly better than average perhaps) and teams have started to figure out how to scout us better?

If we ARE as good as we thought (NCAA caliber despite our recent performances) then clearly we're in a major slump and are lacking confidence (thus no one interested in banging the ball inside consistently, etc.). How do we get it back? Any guesses on what the coaches can try to do? (any coaches out there that can chime in)

OR, if we AREN'T quite as good as we thought, are we still on track to get better and be more of a contender next season?

I tend to think more on the second suggestion--that we're just not quite as developed as we were thinking. We've had some good moments and some good games. No doubt. Toure, David, Stutz are all sophomores--pretty young players with plenty of room for growth. They've shown some moments of maturity, but not the consistency we'll need to challenge for NCAA tourney bids.

The reactions of most fans as we move toward the MVC tourney has been frustration (myself included), some anger, etc. Understand that I'm not trying to dictate to people how they should feel, but rather just posing the questions here. I think few would debate that we are better than last year overall--even with the weak schedule we've had (last year's wasn't much harder). Were we truly realistic to expect that this team was ready for the NCAA (or IS ready)? I still think we can make a big dent in the MVC tourney--perhaps even win it. If we don't and say we make the NIT (most likely) is that something to be disappointed in when looking at the natural progression of this team?

Clearly we all have our own takes on this. I'm not even sure how I feel about it just yet, but I'm trying to find some sort of realistic, rational approach to evaluating the team at this point.

I am betting that we get 1000000 pages of people complaining about this on a message board but not 1 person will ask him about it on the coaches show. Any takers? LOL

Tough one to answer. I think it's a little of both. And I will be dissapointed with the way the season finished on a slump, but the Shockers have already pretty much matched the win total I had hoped for. I said at the beginning of the year I would like to see at LEAST 23 wins and the NIT. Looks like that is quite possible. So i guess I can't be too upset.

                Perhaps I missed something......

Was Coach Marshall's reference not 100% correct?

EXACTLY! I am envious of their environment. The coordinated and CLEVER chants. It was very cool. I wish we had even 10% of their creativity.

He can complement them without saying what he said. Simple "This is one of the best atmospheres we've played in all year" Its not rocket science.

Oh and let me just say. KU even has a AAA crowd compared to what USU had. Just for some perspective. It was just amazing the creativity and timing on their chants. Not to mention they were also pretty loud and into the game. It was one of the better atmospheres I've witnessed on TV.

Some great comments regarding thick skin.....

I think someone else may have said it best when they were recently heard directing towards BL "You can dish it out but you can't take it!".

You don't like being called AAA fans? Change it.

Yes, you can't really compare 4-5k student fans in the Spectrum to our crowds. Our students won't go to the games in any appreciable number...they never have and probably never will.

Too many people talk about how great our fans are.....we're good, not great. Great takes more than running down hill. I find zero fault in anything our coach said. He speaks the truth, sometimes the truth hurts.

Gregg Marshall and political correctness don't often collide.

I think WSU is on the right overall trend line for sustained success. We have a team that is having trouble finding confidence, but it will return. I think Marshall will get it figured out and with his overall philosophy of letting the team learn to play through troubled stretches they will become a very tough out.

With all that said - the most disturbing part of this week has been Marshall's ability to cry like Roy Boy. He could have made this most recent point without referencing our fans. He intentionally said what he said and it, along with ten other comments recently, come off as childish. The man has a lot of pressure and dealing with a bunch of fanatics everyday has to be disturbing, but he can start gaining everyone's respect by taking the high road.

I think his candor probably is considered a liability by schools with more media scrutiny and maybe that is why he was still available to hire when MT left. I know my friends and I were hoping he would get here eventually if MT left, but I was sure the timelines wouldn't match up. I am still very excited we have him, but he could help himself out sometimes...

Doc I totally agree with what you are saying but I guess my point it why does he need to focus on it. Will it get this team winning again?

Do you think WSU fan support or the Koch environment is AAA? I don't.

He doesn't need to make it a zero-sum comment.
