  • The Bench

I've only had the opportunity to watch the Shocks live once so far this year (at MSU). I've watched every nationally televised game. The thing I love about this team is how deep we are and lately it seems like we get better when DK, DW, GS, & GB come in the game.

I DVR'd the game last Sun vs MSU and have watched it several times. IIRC, we were behind when they came in and ahead when the starters came back.

DW: Big BIG improvement since they played in SGF in early Jan. He is handling and shooting the rock . He may be the one who has improved the most.

DK: His BB IQ improves with every game. He may not be scoring as much as expected but he's doing alot of other things to help. I'll be glad when he puts it all together. It may be this weekend.

GS: His offense is getting more consistent. Still needs to learn to go straight up on D.

GB: Maybe the heart and soul of this team. Probably should start but does just as much off the bench. A real difference maker. Probably the main reason E'vil was close last nite.

There has been some talk about the team hitting the wall. The bench seems fully capable of filling in and taking some of the load off the starters.

The minutes that the CH and GH have played may be wearing them down.

I'll agree on all accounts except Kyles. Kyles, while a high-light real type player, and one I enjoy watching, seems to just forget how to play D-I basketball from time to time. He makes good passes and dribbles the ball off his leg. He plays good D at times. I feel good when he shoots, but he makes a low percentage. His alley-oop dunks are with authority, but he drives it to the hole like a pansy and usually misses on the reverse lay-up. If he ups his work ethic, I think he can be a double digit scorer his senior year, but he is still missing something. I am one fan that roots for his consistent success.

Here's to you David...keep at it!

By the way, DW has really impressed me the last two games or so. Blair is a Beast, and Stutz resembles the sophomore seven footer that I expected all along.

I like David Kyles a lot, but the more I have watched him play over the last few weeks, the more he has reminded me of Mike Jones of the MTXE era.

He is either a hero or a goat, and seldom in between....

I'd be interested in seeing DW used more at the 2 and 3 spots. He doesn't seem like a natural point guard to me. When he has the ball he likes to either go to the hole or stay to far back when running the offense. I think he is a more capable 2 or 3 naturally. I think he can develop into a fine point guard if thats what coach wants to do with him though.

I would really like to see KM get more time as he is a true pass first pg that knows how to find guys and make a defense honest. I dont care if he can shoot or not at this point.

DK perplexes me. He could be so good but his focus seems to be lacking. I wish he would take the open shot when he gets it.

GS needs to stay aggressive like he has been on both sides of the court for the last few games. Keep the arms straight up though big guy!

Felter deserves way more minutes than he has seen this year. I know he is undersized and not as talented, skilled, or athletic as our other posts but he plays good d, doesn't lose his man, blocks out, works harder, and is just flat is better than our other centers on d. Oh and he actually knows how to give help d from his position. He doesn't get out of the way when someone is driving his lane either like stutz or durley do!

I like Gabe, but I don't think he is close to being the heart-and-soul of this team.

I see Graham as the heart and Clevin as the soul.

The light seems to have come on for DW over the last 3 games. Here's hoping it stays on.

DK has so much athleticism it can be downright scary at times, but he still has a ways to go be a polished basektball player.

Every time I see Garrett I think, what would we have if we could have redhsirted this kid and this was his freshman year.

Someone mentioned earlier that Coach Gross said in the post-game show that KJ was feeling more comfortable at a wing position when asked about him getting some PG time. I don't view that as a positive sign - period.

GS has improved tremendously. He will still have his off nights but I love the effort he gives and will be a monster in the paint by the time he is done.

DK is DK.. will have some wow moments but will also have some what were you thinking moments. I think the main thing he needs to do is work on finishing strong. he takes it hard to the rim but then tries to be too cute. Anyone else notice him running the point a little last game when we tried to get out in transition. he looked pretty comfortable.

GB is starting to come back to earth a little bit but is still a force and im so glad he transferred here. hopefully he gets healthy for sat.

DW has been the greatest surprise for me personally especially lately. I dont think you usually plan on signing a player as late as we did him and expect him to contribute his first year espcially that quality mins he has the last few games. He is a flat out scorer and i am excited for his future.

KM will be good in the future just have to get his skills refined and under control.

I think the team needs everything that DW can give them off of the bench. To me it seems that Hannah is worn out. Having to play too many minutes is taking its toll.

I noticed that. If he can get over making bonehead plays, I can see him being a decent point guard.

KM is talented and athletic enough to play anywhere from1-3. I think Marshall wants a scoring pg for whatever reason. I don't have any problem with KM at the 2 or 3 position except I think it calls for a better shooter than what he is right now.

Here we go again (seemlingly every week).

Coaches have said many times that KM doesn't show the ability to handle the ball very well during practice and makes too many turnovers. They say that he's not ready to play and since they watch everyday, I'm going to take their word for it.

KM will never play the 2 because he will never be a decent shooter. His 3 ball shots are uglier than sin. No two of them are alike.
