  • Expectations Exceeded

This team has exceeded the expecations I had at the beginning of the year. Lately, they seem to be playing with the weight of the world on their shoulders.

I hope the guys find the fun in playing again. I hope the fans find the fun in supporting them the rest of the season. We all want the NCAA tournament, but regardless of how that turns out, I'll look back at this season with Shocker pride for this team and for Gregg supporting his players.

Play the game hard and to win guys, but also play to have fun and let the chips fall where they fall.

I expect a loud cheering standing ovation for this year's team when they play SIU. Regardless of the outcome of the next two games, let's be sure we let them know how much we have appreciated this season and let's make it loud and proud against SIU.

I also hope that fans find the fun again. The fan base has let the hopes of an NCAA berth lose the ability to enjoy being a fan. I want to go to the NCAA tourney as much as anyone, but if I get so focused on missing that goal that I can't enjoy the fact that I haven't attended a Shocker loss all year, and a better record and Valley standing than predicted, then something has gone wrong.

Getting frustrated is absolutely understandable, but I don't see that dwelling on that frustration does the team OR the fan base any good. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm just going to cheer and hope for the best.

Please stop with the drama. There were a handful. How many people were standing the whole OT cheering the team on even after the fiasco?

I'm not just talking about those that booed. I think all of us can say that at some point we have let frustrations with things not going as well as they might have take enjoyment out of even those things that go well.

This team has exceeded my expectation and have been really fun to follow. I regret our losses but all our wins have been great and we have played some great ball at times. Hopefully we will start playing more like earlier in the season but winning ugly is a nice consolation.

Presently, this team has exceeded my expectations and is where I "hoped" they might be when I drew my expectations in early November. The loses weren't to whom I anticipated but in the aggregate an all around good outcome. I'm outcome oriented more so than process driven but a clean process is wonderful window dressing if results are achieved.

I was looking for improvement this year. 22-6 and 11-5 at this point was way beyond even my most optimistic of dreams. Add another 7 footer and 6'6' or 6'7" player that both can jump out of the gym, the returning players and whoever HCGM brings in next year. It's been a wild ride so far with Marshall and it's just begun.

I agree. It is just basketball and suppose to be entertainment to allow us to escape other lofty life things. Everybody just needs to enjoy the ride. You never know what is going to happen in the future.

They've exceeded my expectations. Would love the NCAA but I'm disappointed that there's only one home game left.

It would be great to get a couple NIT games here to extend the season.

It's been a good year--no doubt. We need to find a way to finish strong. Only one team will end their season with a win (well, I guess more than one with all of the postseason tourneys) and it probably won't be us. That doesn't mean we can't win some more before we're done.

Yes, the record is nice, no denying that, but if we go 0-4 and done for the season (not completely out of the question at all, I'd say), or even 1-2 and then lose in the first round of the tourney, is anyone going to have that much reason to be overly optimistic about next season considering the miserable finish?

I think I could. Optimism springs eternal....especially for Shocker fans that had to endure the cohen era. :good:

Yes, as everyone knows one of the keys to ensuring a strong finish is experience and next year's team will be more experienced and thus better at pacing themselves and everything else that will be needed for a stronger finish.

Wow, you've missed a few things.
                            1. Williams is emerging as a PG. Marshall will probably still go for a JuCo PG to compete for starting time.
                            2. Add a year of exp to all the returning players.
                            3. Remember Troy Mack? Ellis has at least as much potential to have a breakout Sr season.
                            4. Joining the team next year
                            a) RS Fr G "maker" who got a year of physical maturity this year
                            b) RS Fr PF "beast" who learned some BB this year
                            c) A 7' JuCo So C defensive specialist who's super-athletic and strong
                            d) Probably a JuCo PG

Next year's Shox look to be quicker, bigger, more athletic, and more physical. It's going to hurt to lose Hannah, but there's adequate depth. Losing Hannah will resemble losing Miller, but when Miller left, there wasn't enough depth and some players wore down mid-season.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
