We have not beaten a good team on the road yet this season.
USU is both a very good team and they are murder at home.
Logic says we could very easily get beat by 15-25 points.
To hell with Mr. Spock - Shocks win by one.
Remember, too, that the Shox defense has been outstanding, even in the losses. We were holding Evansville to the 30's shooting, and they finished just about 41, and before everybody jumps on the "but it's Evansville" bandwagon, that was 6-7 points BELOW their average. We were actually defending them better than the teams that blew them out.
Our problems are almost completely on the scoring end. We've picked a bad time to get the yips in both bunnies and free throws. Clevin, I think, is getting a little nervous as his collegiate career is close to ending, so he looks tentative on the floor. Toure looks like he's have a crisis of confidence in his shot; every time he takes it, it looks forced to me. The big guys are still hesitating to make a move on the block and go up hard.
But, there are some good trends too. Graham seems to be shooting himself out of his slump. Every game Garrett Stutz looks a little more like the center we want him to be. (Evidence: that tomahawk early in the game. He needs to do that about 3-4 times a game, EVERY game.) David Kyles' streakiness isn't quite so streaky. Demetric Williams has darn near won himself next year's starting PG position with his play the last three games.
The defense assures we'll stay in this game, and stay in it late unless they somehow bust out a BIG run in the mid 2nd-half and just demoralize us. Even then they'll crawl back. We're not getting blown out of this game.
Think you might want to check that HockeyShock. I may be mistaken but I believe there have been several recent games where the Shocks have allowed high 40 to 50% shooting. Of course last night was an exception. Hopefully we'll see more of the type of defensive effort and intensity we saw last night ... JT excluded.
I'm just glad the game isn't at 11am. The Shocks don't seem to play that well in early games. Maybe the late night start will be good for them. I still don't think it will be enough, however.
Here's the deal. Our beloved Shocks better play one of our best games this Season or else---P A I N !!!!!!! This opponent is for real, especially at their House. Let's hope Gabe is back, Clevin quits getting in foul trouble, we don't try to live by the 3 or we will die by the 3, and play "hair-on-fire"- D-Fence!!!!!! Don't bet the farm on this one.
WSU----------77
Aggie-ville----74
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
Not sure this is a good game or not for the Shocks to get out of their recent funk or not.
On the one hand it is a very good team in a very tough venue. On the other hand, it will be a nice change up from playing MVC games and the energy in the arena may actually help the Shock get their collective motors running plus the Shocks have a tendency to play to the level of their competition.
Still it is hard to predict a win for the Shocks in this one.
I look for Utah State to prevail by 8 - 12 points.
Utah State doesn't lose much at home.
WSU doesn't win much on the road.
Altitude will hurt WSU.
Blair is hurt.
Utah State crowd the best we will see all year!
