It probably will happen at some point in time. There's is not much a fan can do except let Coach know how much he means to the team and the city. If Marshall decides leaving some day would be the best step for him, then so be it. But until then I'm just going to enjoy the ride and not fret about it.

I wasn't able to hear, what did the coach say about what it would take for him to stay?

Plus he said his only goal is to make WSU basketball program better and better for years to come.

No there is no rumor that I know of, except for the voices in the heads of some insecure people in this town.

"...no rumor that I know of, except for the voices in the heads of some insecure people in this town."

You might have added, SB, "a number of whom post on ShockerNet."

Nostradamus is back, and he notes that all coaches eventually leave wherever they are, except for those who stay their entire careers and then retire or die. Some leave voluntarily, others are fired, others retire, and once in a while someone dies on the job. That should pretty much cover Marshall's future, and we know he'll do one of them -- as will the rest of us at our jobs, by the way -- so there's no need to worry about it any further.

It's an even sweeter ride. It'll throw back in the seats quite nicely.

In that same breath, he mentioned something about working on red shirts. Do you have any idea about the meaning of the comment?
This was in reply to the what it will take for him to stay and took his statement that he actively redshirting players as an inication he is making moves to improve the future of the program and that he intends to be here in the future when these efforts bear fruit...

I'd hate to see Marshall become the next "Dana Altman" of the MVC.

I'd prefer a coach with a little more ambition and personality than Altman has shown. I can't imagine a coach being satisfied staying at CU and losing in the first round of the NCAA from time to time.

If Marshall is going to stay at WSU for more than Turgeon-like years, I'd like to see him losing in the 3rd round of the NCAA's from time to time and maintaining that level.

If Marshall thinks he needs to leave WSU to reach his ambitions and goals in coaching, then that's what's going to happen. I'd rather not have a coach who would lower his goals in order to stay at WSU, even if that means WSU keeps coaches for 5 or 6 years and then they go to schools with better national opportunities.

Don't kid yourself, WSU in no better or worse position than maybe 100 similar schools to break out of the non-BCS pack and establish themselves as a national power. There's still only one Gonzaga, and I'd rather not go the route Memphis went.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Gonzaga will only be Gonzaga as long as Mark Few is there. When he leaves I would give even odds that they will begin the inevitable slide to obscurity. Think Loyola-Chicago or St. Louis or Drake.

Aargh, Memphis had been down that road in 1985 with Dana Kirk. Then they did it again with Calipari. Below is a where are they now of the '85 Memphis team that is pretty interesting and brings back a lot of names.

Ring-a-Ding Ding! You nailed it YF! That's exactly what I thought Marshall was saying with his answer.

Maybe you haven't followed Gonzaga that closely, but Mark Few did not put the Zags on the basketball map. He's certainly taken the program to new heights, and maintained the product, but I think a great amount of credit is due to Dan Monson, who was ever so close to a final four in his second season. That started the great run that Few has been able to sustain.

This is not to disparage Few, who I believe is one of the best, but just give some credit to Monson. Again, probably another example of a coach thinking the grass is greener in BCS land.

Another point though, is that there is no reason to believe that Gonzaga basketball will return to a lower level should Few leave. It will be regarded as one of the best jobs in the West, and will have some high level applicants.

Wow, it's weird that you cite this example, as Dana Kirk has died.

An Overseas summer trip could be invaluable for our Shocks. This Season will be better than most expected, even with some setbacks.(Evansville) A strong finish this Season could be a springboard for a great Season next Season. By Summer, we should have 3 point-guards counting Kenny who can all begin competing early to 'shore up' this crucial position for next Season. Mr. Hannah graduating will hurt and needs to be addressed by his replacements. Our redshirts could begin to mesh with our veterns. EO can get some time on the hardwood as we begin our "Twin-Towers-Tradition" and we reminisce our former "Bookends." Our Coaching Staff gets extra time with our team to coach on such a journey. It is exciting that players are working hard to develop and improve under this Coaching Staff and more Shocker wins is the evidence of this dedication.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

I don't think a 'Twin Towers tradition' should be established until they do something to 'earn it'. Orukpe certainly isn't 'tearing it up' in Juco ball.
