Does anyone know what happened to the "other" WSU fight song? They still play Hail Wichita of course, the the other song hasn't been played in at least two years. I still hear it on commericals, but never from the pep band. What happened?
I was thinking last night band seemed quiter this year than in years past but then I remember I moved quite a bit from where I used to sit (student section and above the student section).
The horn that starts the opening song used to really grab me.
I still would love to get a good recording of that for a ring tone.

the band plays Hail Wichita for the mens game and (the name escapes me, sorry) the other fight song is used at womens games.

It probably is quieter. Enrollment in the school of music has steadily dropped over the years. Therefore, the bands have been smaller (on top of the fact that they no longer allow alumni to be regular participants) They began miking the band the year I ran it and I guess last year, they decided to incorporate more recorded music. (boo!)
which opening song are you talking about? Dudley? (the one right before tipoff and the 2nd half?)

Im currently looking for a recording of our dudley do right opening....gotta have that ringtone....
anyone???????
If they are ranked 7th, then we were National Champs when I was in, and I was All-American! Oh wait, I was, seriously! In 1989! And shock-it-to-me followed suit a couple years later. THOSE were the glory years, I tell you what...
:yahoo:
So how much do you weigh? HAHAHAHA
ShockBand. PLEASE do me a favor. Talk to somebody who knows somebody and please, please get the band leader to allow the drum player to go off on a solo all by himself on one timeout. I swear that will get a huge positive reaction if they just let him rip one time.
More than I should, but it is going down. I did play tuba and bass trombone and "fit" the stereotype.
I don't have any contacts anymore with the band, but if I get a chance I'll try and relay the message. The athletic department has most timeouts scripted out and band playtime is pretty limited. They seem to want more of an NBA feel instead of a college atmosphere. Which stinks.
Could you also tell then to not play Low Brass when we are behind? It's much more fun when we're winning. ;-)
I would personally love to hear more of the band and less of the recorded stuff, too. If you figure out whose ear we should bend about that one, let me know.
"You want answers?"
"I want the truth."
"You can't handle the truth!"

The athletic department used to have .wav files of the Alma Mater and Hail Wichita (and maybe more) on goshockers.com, but since the redesign, I can't find them. You might start there.

The pep band should make a CD of basketball music.
Oh, and the WAVs on goshockers.com were only ever of Hail Wichita! The WSU Fight Song, and Alma Mater...
Deep in the heart of couldn't give a crap about college basketball-land and I miss the SHOX.
