  • Pep band rankings?

I wasn't really listening before the game last night when I thought I heard it said that WSU has the 8th-ranked pep band in the nation.

Did I hear that right or was it in regards to something else?

Don Hall says this before every game, throwing the pep band some love. Totally made up :)

How in the hell do you rank pep bands?

        Seriously.

This will not end in anything good except for oreos.

              Easy there, Kung Wu! :D

If they are ranked 7th, then we were National Champs when I was in, and I was All-American! Oh wait, I was, seriously! In 1989! And shock-it-to-me followed suit a couple years later. THOSE were the glory years, I tell you what...

So how much do you weigh? HAHAHAHA

ShockBand. PLEASE do me a favor. Talk to somebody who knows somebody and please, please get the band leader to allow the drum player to go off on a solo all by himself on one timeout. I swear that will get a huge positive reaction if they just let him rip one time.

Also .. that dig was intended for the dance squad (who are so-so), not the band (who I really appreciate and enjoy). It sure didn't come out that way though. :)

More than I should, but it is going down. I did play tuba and bass trombone and "fit" the stereotype.

I don't have any contacts anymore with the band, but if I get a chance I'll try and relay the message. The athletic department has most timeouts scripted out and band playtime is pretty limited. They seem to want more of an NBA feel instead of a college atmosphere. Which stinks.

That does stink. Let's start a shockernet petition to have a kick-ass drum solo at timeout or half-time instead of half of the cock-a-mamy crap that have going.

                      Edit: I can't say cockamamy? kok-a-mamy? It's not a bad word. LOL

Ooh, that's a problem if we ever play the Uni of South Carolina.

As someone who's played in some pep bands and sat perilously close to some pep bands, I do think the house band at The Chuck is one of the better ones for pure animal power. The acoustics aren't that great for instrumental music, however, so the music bounces around and tends to muddle.
Until someone devises a method to properly rank college pep bands, I think we can safely claim a top-10 band. :goshocks:

There is only one way to rank pep bands, and that is with your ears. Please compare the bands next time you are in St. Louis, and you should be able to realize that we have one of the best.

count me as a shockband protege. Wish I was old enough to enjoy the band then. Yeah I may have just called you old shockband! I did get to enjoy watching some decent teams from 2003-2008.
