Clearly not a season ticket holder during the unmentionable 90's. Unlike Wichita Wings fans, Thunder fans, and Wranglers fans; Shocker fans are not typically fair-weather fans that won't show up when it gets tough. Consistently drawing crowds of over 6,000 during the 90's says that our fans have heart through thick and thin.

We *****, moan, and groan with the best of them -- but we show up and cheer. At least that's how I have seen it go down, and wouldn't want it any other way.

      Wow

It's tempting to call Underdog a poor man's Dofo, but that would be an insult to poor men and Dofo. Besides, at least Dofo wasn't subversive -- he was just...well, Dofo.

Almost... but it can be done. We need to see some dramatically improved effort on Sunday and it will go a long way towards taking the edge off of that lousy performance at EU.

I think it's just like the team has the responsibility to play hard, it's our responsibility as FANS to cheer loudly and be as rowdy and supportive as we can be. In essence make the home environment as imposing as possible for the visiting team. This responsibility transcends slumps and losing streaks. It's just gotta be done and we have to do it.

Those bandwagon fans who want to write the team off just shouldn't come if it's torture for them or they refuse to support the team and cheer.

My point was that your perception may be wrong.

Do some of you really think the players didn't believe they were making an effort?

Game in and game out, I believe the players are making their best effort. The problem is the best on any given day may not be enough to match or exceed your opponent. Or in spite of the effort, their basketball smarts may not be up to the task. Or the shots aren't falling. Or the breaks aren't going their way. Or any number of other factors.

Just because a team isn't "ready to play" or that they were "passive" doesn't automatically imply the effort wasn't there. There are just too many other dynamics in play to automatically resort to blaming the effort.

Now if a coach, who sees them everyday in practice, comes out and says publicly that his team lacked effort, then we can start talking about fans sending a message to the players whose scholarships are paid for by said fans. Until then, get your butts to the game and show this team you are still behind them.

Sure we are down, frustrated as hell, pissed off, wondering how we could throw away a most promising season by losing to EU, and blaming everyone and everything.

But, in keeping, it should be perfectly understandable for any of us to rant and rave (even KC) and express our emotional feelings after such a loss. I know it helps me to get it out of my system. And whenever this happens now, my wife reminds me of one busted TV set from eons gone by.

But, shunning the team and players by sitting down and not cheering or clapping at game-time is a no-no, never to be tolerated, and could even possibly result in bodily harm.

Bad losses happen, and after a brief mourning period, we need to shake it off and return back to our primary role - supporting our kids who play the game to the best of their abilities.

But just in case, my better half has advised me that I will have to watch Sunday's game on our old TV and not on our new plasma set.

The problem is not with our win total or how we are doing in relation to our preseason pick of 5th in the valley. The problem is how the team is playing RIGHT NOW. I don't care how many wins they have and I don't care what place they are in. The only thing that matters is that right now they are playing like crap and several players appear to have given up. That is a major concern no matter how you try and spin it. Last year, we peaked at the end of the season with mostly the same players, so I am not sure what is happening to cause the opposite to take place this year. I would be 'happier' if we were sitting at 17 wins and in 5th place if we looked like we were catching fire and getting ready to take it to the MVC tournament with some passion.

OK, Royal, I considered that might me what you meant, but shook it off. Absolutely, there was not enough effort during the last half dozen games. NO QUESTION, and it pizzes me off. I don't know if the players thought they were trying hard and frankly I don't even carei f they THOUGHT they were trying. They were not. Rebounding and defense is mostly effort and many of them are not trying hard enough, period. Look at the film. It's not fair to expect more than they have got, but it's not unfair to expect everything they've got, and I don't wanna settle for less. Apparently that strikes a discord with you. If it does, sorry. Well not really.

Agreed totally. This team's expectations changed in mid to late December and into early January. If we somehow collapsed to a 5th place finish and people said "oh well, that's where we were picked anyways", that would be mind-numbing.

In the grand scheme of things, 20-6 and 2nd in the Valley is pretty damn good, considering our preseason expectations. However, looking at the team's play now, Tuesday night was an embarrassment and should not be tolerated. And it's not like Evansville lit up the place and played the game of their lives either. It was simply us not playing good basketball, a coach that got ridiculously outcoached by a Marty Simmons, and a few players that couldn't give two shiats either way.

Again, I support the school and the team. However, I simply won't care if they don't.

                  ... No really, deuces.

yes, that is the perfect way to support our team.

Remember Marshall's first year? Our fans, you know, the ones that still show up no matter how our team was doing? I remember several standing O's after some hard fought games. Some were wins, some were losses. That's the support they need during slumps or whatever may be going on.

Showing a lack of support for a bunch of kids going through a rough patch may be the most asinine thing to do. At least you'll stick out like a sore thumb at games because our true fans will continue to make Koch arena one of the most difficult places to play in the nation.
