  • Some of you guys are being too harsh.

Yes we had a mind-blowing loss last night and plenty of disappointment is expected. What isn't expected from fans of a team that is 20-6 is the following:

    1) Insinuation about the head coach's job security.

    2) Claims of not going to any more home games.

That is just way over the top.

I have us winning our next two home games, losing at Utah and Bradley, and then winning on Clevin's senior night against SIU. That would put us at 23-8 overall and 12-6 in the Valley.

Then I believe we will win two at St. Louis and two in the NIT. That gives us a record of 27-10 for HCGM's third season. This is a very modest prediction based on our overall performance this season and how our remaining schedule is laid out.

27-10 is a very successful season, and while certain individual aspects of our team/coach's play irritate me, I am not going to lose site of what will stand in the record books: nearly 30 wins, a second place Valley finish (12-6), and post-season play.

This will be a great year to build on, and there is always a chance that things could still turn out to be super-special. I seem to remember a team turnaround after a very embarrassing performance at MSU last year.

I like to whine and moan about things I see that I don't like because that is simply my nature. I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I'm sure HCGM is the same way. But, I would not trade our coach or our players (and all the 3-balls in the world) for anything else the MVC has to offer. We have a lot of exciting things going on and I am very interested in who coach Marshall brings in over the next several years.

And in case nobody noticed, GS tied his second highest FIELD GOAL output of the year last night with six (he made six field goals the other night against SIU). Field goals made are a lot more important to me - coming from a 7 footer - than free throws made. He isn't doing it against the Northern Iowa's of the world, but he is definitely on a scoring uptrend!

**And two assists, one steal, one block, and NO turnovers or fouls last night for Stutz! That is just crazy.**

Keep your heads up Shocker fans!

    Who kidnapped MTXE?

First time that I've ever agreed with anything you've ever posted. How do we know you are who you say you are?

    Good post though.

Reminds me of someone who just wants to be against the norm for the sake of hearing themselves talk. Even so, it promotes an interesting message board.

Well said. HCGM will be proving his worth in spades in the next several weeks as he gets this team back on track. No one is more disappointed in the team's performance last night than me (and all of us fans) EXCEPT the coach. He knows their potential way, way more than any of us. He also knows their weaknesses. He knows the kids personally and that means a lot--probably makes the disappointment even deeper. I have yet to see any posts calling for his job, but if indeed there are some, that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. He is a winner and I am confident that he'll find a way to point these guys back in the right direction. This season--even with last night's loss (yes, even with that bitter pill) is so much better than the last 2, there's no comparison.

They pay him (HCGM) the big bucks to figure this out, and I'm sure he will. It just may not happen as fast as we'd like.

I am critical because I want to see continual improvement regardless of how small. I am not insane however, and some of the types of comments of which I enumerated above are insane.

Everything I say is taken wayyyy out of context.

I am still down on Stutz's overall development yet remain hopeful (why wouldn't any true Shocker fan remain hopeful?).

I am still unhappy with certain aspects of team management.

I am very pleased with our record and am willing to fully repress what happened last night as long as we turn this boat around. :)

          8/5 * 100 = 160% (I bet not as bad as you thought) ;)

I agree with MTXE although the loss last night was almost more than I can stand, the team still has the potential to salvage at least their pride and a decent position in the MVC. Who knows, maybe this will be the motivation they need to play up to or even surpass their potential. Isn't it whoever wins the MVC tournament goes to the Big Dance? Why don't we all stop with the wineing and plan on getting behind them all the way to the tournament? Sounds like a plan to me!

Venting is ok... we all need it after last night, but at some point before Sunday night we need to regroup as a fan base and put our support behind the guys again. They can't right the ship in front of the home crowd without our support.

I'm still shaking my head about last night though. I was terrified that would happen and it did.

If the team wants to put forth their best effort, then the whining will stop and everyone will get behind the team. Until that happens then it's going to continue.

Saint Louis in 2007 might have been one of my favorite times watching WSU play. We were on a huge downward spiral and things were not going good.. yet they showed up in Saint Louis and left everything on the court. The team had problems and lost the game against Missouri State, but NO ONE could complain about a lack of effort.

Meanwhile, this team has so much talent and potential, yet we see players on the court that just don't care. Not to mention the numerous newspaper articles about how the team is ready to play on the road and knows what to expect..

Nothing is wrong with venting or being hyper-critical. I say this because I am very critical. But some of the fans on this board are simply unstable. One of them spends most of his time obsessing about me.

Giving up on a team that is 20-6 is juvenile, silly, embarrassing. Evansville fans are allowed to give up on their team not us.

I know it is not just the loss, but the way we lost, and the timing of the loss that hurts. It hit me so hard that I have fairly repressed it out of existence. It is simply too disappointing to fully process.

But we have a very good chance to finish 12-6 (2nd) in the Valley and that is a VERY impressive record and a solid improvement over last year. If we win at Bradley we go 13-5. I don't think we win at Bradley but who knows, we certainly could.

the guys needed to lose that game. i wouldn't have been happy with a win after how bad the team played - the shox definately deserved to lose.

truly an eye opener, hopefully the team knows that they can't cadillac their way thru the remainder of the schedule and into st louis. if the coaching staff doesn't have their attention NOW, they probably will NEVER get it.

What a pile of manure! We didn't need to lose that game. We don't need to lose at Utah or Bradley. We just need to have this team pull its collective head out and play to potential, and coaches coach to their potential.

I sort of agree, depending on how the rest of the season plays out. If they win that game and continue to think that the effort put forth was good enough, then this team would likely be a huge disappointment come tourney time.

But if the loss serves as a wake-up call and learning experience, it may end up having a greater benefit.

It's just a shame that the DU and INSU games didn't appear to serve that purpose.

You claim that I'm obsessed at you MTXE/Cold, but yet you create a thread about me? Hypocrite much?

I'm not disappointed about our season overall. A Top 2/3 Valley finish, a 20-win season, an NIT appearance. I'm satisfied.

However, when you actually exceed expectations and have a chance to reach the ultimate goal, the NCAA Tournament, and then ultimately drop your balls against a 290 RPI team that was 0-13 in the Valley is inexcusable. It's frankly downright disgusting. I am not satisfied with that.

If 95% of the team/coaching staff doesn't care, then why should I right now?
