  • Shockwaves: The Day After the Evansville Disaster

    Sullentrop has 3 items:

WSU needs to find out a way to score against Evansville’s man-to-man defense. In five against the Aces since coach Marty Simmons took over, the Shockers are shooting 41.8 percent (97-232) and 23.3 percent (20-86) from three-point range. They average 57.8 points, with a high of 68, while losing three of the five meetings (one to come on Feb. 17). The Aces play tough defense and in the previous two seasons had experience on their side. This season, WSU was the better, more experienced, more talented team. It can’t let Evansville’s bumping, grabbing and impeding disrupt its offense. My thought is a team must be strong enough to drive past the Aces and make them pay for being so aggressive. And you’ve got to get to the line.
Evansville D was not special. Only thing they had going was the ability to double team and WSU didn't look for the open man, or there was the lazy, stupid pass, or the driving into a triple teams... I was not impressed with EU. They didn't even play a good game except they hit their FT because WSU was to lazy to guard without fouling.

Call it coaching, call it bad basketball IQ, call it selfishness - but is clear to me that jacking up 3's when you can't hit the rim is stupid. EU was exposed last night when WSU went inside. But they seemed to get away from that.

I though WSU has a great weight program? Why do we continue to hear about teams being stronger? Either the weight program is not that good or there are a bunch of ....

Three WSU starters are struggling to score. Center J.T. Durley, who is slowed by a sore hamstring, is averaging 8.8 points in his past five games. Without him scoring, WSU has little inside game and opponents can smother the outside shooters.
Outiside shooter can't hit open looks. Has nothing to do with the opposing D. How does having a hurt hamstring stop you from playing low post? If he's that hurt, they should not play him. He is not helping his team.

Teams are increasingly finding ways to take the ball out of Clevin Hannah’s hands. Northern Iowa and Evansville, in particular, doubled Hannah to make him give up the ball and it hurts WSU’s offense.
A good PG makes them pay.

While Demetric Williams gave the Shockers a good effort on Tuesday, Hannah has to be on the floor more than 20 minutes and must be effective for WSU to win. Graham Hatch is 2 of 17 from three-point range in his past three games. Independently, WSU can survive these inconsistencies. When they all come together, it’s a big problem.
CH problem is stupid fouls and getting beat on D.

I see a team that loses composure on occasion. WSU’s aggressive, physical defense is responsible for a 20-6 record, so let’s not get too wacky here. However, at times the Shockers are grabbing for balls and bumping people when they don’t need to due to the time and score. Hannah, in particular, must realize his importance to the team and know he has to stay on the floor.
It been said here by other - this team lacks "Poise".

I think that basketball IQ is suspect with this team also.

I sometimes wunder if this team just doesn't quite GET the idea that being the Hunted is not the same as being the HUNTER. And yes I know we were not Expected to win at NIU ,, But I can guarentee that we were the hunted that night. NIU knew what it would mean to win that game and went out to hunt down the threat of someone beatin them.
WSU seems more comfortable in We shouldnt win situations , so let just get after it and let it all hang out,,l , But now that WSU is EXPECTED to do more they just don't seem to GET IT. (Just a thought )
From the road I listen (Tune In radio) at home I watch ( season Ticks )

There simply is not enough difference in skill and athleticism from the top of the Valley to the bottom of the Valley to negate the overwhelming influence of hard work.

Suspect? As in I suspect it is in the Forrest Gump range?

You have to be mildly retarded in the basketball IQ department to take some of the quick 3s that were taken yesterday, especially when it had been proven that points could be had in the paint.

I don't know about anyone else but the 20-6 record doesn't make me wacky at all. The 4-4 over the past 8 games after a 16-2 start does...

No inside game? Do they mean like GS! I think if we pounded the ball to GS, he could have single handedly won that game.
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

I agree....for the life of me can't figure what coach was thinking not having him in and going to him. he should have been the focal point of our offense last night. He had the hot hand (dominating for a period of time in the 1st half)

I could mention players who don't show much "basketball smarts" :D but we all know who they are. One in particular seemed to have no clue again. :banghead:
Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.
