  • Azimuth Check!

In a past life movement across wide and varying terrain and ecosystems was a regular fact of life. It was/is good practice to orientate one's location in the real world with one's location on the map. To do this one must plot a course and while enroute cross-reference the actual location and progress with the intended location on the intended course. If one's ahead of schedule one must not rest or deviate but stay focused until the objective is reached...

The only game I've left early was when I was in school and KU was up by 30 in the old Roundhouse. Of course we arrived 10 minutes before tip and set on the fourth or fifth row with elbow room. Times have been worse, much worse.

The frustrating thing with this team is, as I've said numerous times in the past month or so, these guys lack poise. Poise is cool, cool under pressure, consistently and reliably hitting the shot under pressure.

As much as it pains me to say , "we are ahead of where I thought we'd be this season". I hoped we'd play for the MVC title but reasoned a 3 to 4 finish. Success and circumstance has got the best of me. Hell I was preparing (financially & work schedule) for ungodly time commitments & airfares to destination unknown for NCAA play, damn good times.

For us fans now is the time for an azimuth check. Based upon the start of the season, where are you now compared to where you thought you'd be when the season and/or Valley play started?

...Is the program where you thought it would be (total record not who the loss was to)?

I did not have a loss to Evansville in the cards at the beginning of the year. Them entering 0-13 tonight reconfirms that thought.
    Deuces Valley.
    ... No really, deuces.

I figured 3rd of 4th place, but I expected the league to be better than it ended up.

The big picture is we are improving, albeit it's painful to admit now. GM's first year we were 11-20 (4-14), then 17-17 (8-10), worse case scenario if we lose out 20-11 (9-9). Incidentally i don't think we'll lose out, but it does create some perspective.

Neither did I... I thought 18-8 was realistic at the point... and I wasn't concerned about our weak non-con schedule, SOS, RPI, etc. I knew we were very young and the season would be a roller coaster. Regardless, tonight completely took the wind out of my sails.

I'm an optimist and this is as down as I've been in a long time. I'm guilty of letting the team build my expectations only to have them snuffed out. I guess KC's approach is better... have low expectations and keep your glass half empty.
