  • Oregon calling Turgeon?

Phognet reporting that Turgeon might be getting a call from Oregon.

I always felt he would have been happier staying at WSU rather than moving to aTm.

I'm not sure how much of a step up Oregon is from aTm...

I think I heard him say he was "comfortable" at WSU and was not really interested in leaving, but Larry Brown chastised him that he wasn't meant to be "comfortable" but needed to go somewhere where he could win a national championship (like A&M would ever by that place). But I'm sure he's got us to the different world of the "BCS" and it's luxuries.

Hey, hey! Quit picking on the Fightin' Texas Aggies.

Disagree. This is Mark's last year with Gillespie's best recruits. He's brought in some decent young talent, but next year will be something of a rebuilding season.

I would not be shocked to see Turgeon leave for Oregon.

Turgeon would have a much better chance at winning the PAC at Oregon than he would have of winning the Big-12 at A&M. I know he wanted to be at a BCS school, but I was shocked when he went to A&M. No pun intended.

He's really turned A&M to a national powerhouse, hasn't he? Doesn't matter where he goes, he won't sniff a NC. Sometimes the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Just think, if Turg goes to Oregon he can go back to saying, "at our level," being that the Pac-10 will be lucky to get as many bids as the Valley this year.

If he leaves aTm it's a chess move to position himself for the KU job.

Would KU hire a Big 12 coach?...

Might be easier to hire a Pac 10 coach with a better looking record.

He won't be coaching at KU. I don't see Self leaving until he retires as he's too good to get run off. Turgeon won't be coaching long enough to be there when the time comes.

This year they might get less. The PAC-10 had 14 players go in the NBA's first round over the last 2 years and it's going to take a year or two to get back to where it was.

I can see Self going to the NBA eventually.

Just curious. What makes you think Self is going anywhere, anytime soon (or not so soon). Given that MT is only a couple of years younger than Self, if he leaves aTm for that reason, it's the wrong reason. He best be concerned with building the DI program he's got with his own players or doing the same in Oregon to even get to a level where KU would consider him. I'm sure any "big time" program wants to make sure you can be continuely successful with your own players. His last year at WSU was not a feather in his cap, but a black question mark.
