  • Missouri State's RPI a couple of years ago..

Can anybody recall Missouri State's RPI a couple of years ago? If I remember right they were in the mid 30's. I'm curious because according to the rankings on CBS Sportline we moved up to 37.

Thanks. It will be interesting to compare as the season moves closer to March. Do you remember the year.

        Wasn't it 21?

MSU had an RPI of 21 that season and got left out for teams like Air Force, Seton Hall, and a few others that I can't remember.

That was painful to watch. They had the whole team sitting around waiting to hear their names called. I truly felt bad for Barry and it probably cost him his job.

The exclusion of Missouri State is what convinced me that the concept that selection committee selects teams not conferences was a lie. Putting in Missouri State would have meant that the Valley would have had 5 bids. MSU's resume was more than good enough to be in, but the selection committee wasn't about to let the MVC have more bids than the Pac-10, Big 12, and ACC.

                One external factor that season:

                1. The Valley already had 4 teams in the dance.

                One internal factor that season:

                1. I don't believe MSU had any sort of "marquee" win on their schedule, however this is just off of memory since I cannot find an 06-06 schedule online anywhere.

Hi, long time lurker here. Finally decided to post because well I am kind of a tourney geek. Looking at Mo. St.'s resume there really was no substance to it:

ESPN presents the full 2024-25 conferences Men's College Basketball season team lineup. Includes rosters, schedules, stats and ticket information for all NCAA teams.

                  20-8 record
5-7 vs. Tourney teams that year(3-6 in conference including MVC Tourney)
                  Best Non-con win: UW-Milwaukee(Auto-bid Seeded 11)

While only one of their losses was to a team that didn't make the tournament, there is really nothing at all else to the schedule. They won every game they were supposed to but didn't win any that would have built a resume. So maybe there wasn't so much bias.

Here's a link to the Valley in 2005-2006. It doesn't have RPI's, but has Pomeroy ratings. You can click on any team to see their schedule and results for the year.

I guess MSU's "marquee wins" in conference didn't count.

The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

UNI had a better non-con than Mo St, but the Bears a better conference record. Had Mo St not lost to UNI by 15 in the first round of the Valley tourney, they would have been in and UNI out.

I can't believe our RPI is all the way up to 37. :)

Thanks for bringing that back up, that season we were 0-6 against the top 3 teams in the conference. 'Nuff said.

Thanks for stopping by. However, the Shox were the only Valley team you lost to twice. You split with Creighton, UNI, SIU, and Bradley.
