It's just one of those things. There is no "over the back" anywhere in the basketball rule book.

Although I had a coach once tell me a play was a text book definition of over the back and I told him there was no definition in the rule book and he basically told me I was full of crap. I almost brought the rule book out at half time.

I have seen, on a few occasions, a referee put both hands up motion over the shoulders and motion down while calling the foul. That is the only reason why I would say that.

That "call" irritates me and many others.

It's really just a push foul. I think the book generally says you can't physically displace an established player with contact. So I think over the back wouldn't be a foul without contact.

But maybe I'm wrong.
