You hafta finish at .500 to be eligible for postseason play (NIT, CBE, etc). I see nothing wring with making teams finish .500 in their conference in order to be eligible for the big dance. I mean, c'mon.........

The point that was brought up about more teams getting in the dance would possibly cause teams to play at schools like WSU isn't far fetched. There wouldn't be near as much to lose for a school like KU to play WSU, only a better seed.

And I too like the requirement that you finish at least .500 in your conference. No more 9 teams for the Big East just because they're from the Big East. And that requirement alone would probably get 1 more team from the MVC every year in the tourney.

Nothing in this discussion is going to get the BCS schools on the road more often. There will alsways be a few mavericks (like Pat Knight) who will take an occasional road game.

The vast majority are so tied to their budgets that they really aren't allowed to go on the road unless there's a big TV package involved. I'm afraid I'm poking the hornets' nest with a stick, but let me use KU as an example.

Let's say KU has the choice of playing 2 home games against Northeastern Central Idaho School of Technology or a home-and-home against WSU.

In Lawrence, both NCIST and WSU sell out Allen. The only difference is that KU has to pay NCIST $60,000 instead of giving them a return game. That's roughly 16,000 * $20, or $320,000 from ticket sales. Not counting concessions, premium payments for season tickets, the 2 games against NCIST earn $520,000 for KU.

For KU to make the same amount of money from the home-and-home with WSU, WSU has to pay KU $200,000 to show up at CKA, and get paid nothing for going to Allen. The AD at WSU who would sign that contract would get run out of town. The coach or AD in Lawrence who would agree to a home-and-home without a paycheck going to KU would cost the 'Hawks around $250,000 and get run out of Lawrence on a rail.

In addition to the road loss being unbearable for the BCS teams, their budgets don't allow the road games against mids.

How bout to get your state funding...you play the damn game and shut the hell up about the money...they could charge 40.00 bucks a head at the chuck for the game and make half of it a donation to the state funds or whatever...If there was anyone really wanting to make it happen...like it does in other states...I think it would happen...
1/16/2010 on the "Screw at the Q" HCGM... " Ive never seen a foul parade like that...If you would of let me know it was going to be a foul parade I would of brought a different team" .... "dont talk to me about fouls....Ive got to go back and look at some tape... I have some thoughts but I need to look at the tape and then I will have something very strong to say"

Guess they would have to start budgeting for it then, which they could easily do from the football riches most of them make. You guys keep using KU as an example. Plug in my critera to some mid tier BCS teams and it will make much more sense. Look at Arizona, Kentucky and Oregon in 2008 for good examples.

That assumes that season ticket prices are determined on a per game basis, which I don't think they are. If KU plays one less home game, they aren't going to charge less for season tickets. Concessions sales would suffer, but they would not have to pay the buy out.

The BCS scholls that draw 5K to home games are more likely candidates for home-and-home games.

I hope they do not expand to 96. This would most certainly saturate the tourney like the NCAA has already done with the who-cares bowl games they have in football. Seriously, did anyone watch or care about who played in the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, or the St. Peterburg's Bowl presented by Beef O'Bradys for that matter?

Less is more in both cases.

Since they would be doing away with the NIT, I think it would still have just as much impact with fans as it does now. The extra round would be better games than the first round has to offer usually anyways.

Plus it would make for very interesting office pools.

Expanding does NOT mean that the MVC would always get 3. Hell, the Big 12 might get 10 or 11 with expansion.

If you forced the BCS to have one OOC road win, here's what you'd get:
                        North Carolina @ UNC-Asheville
                        Texas @ Texas State
                        Kansas @ UMKC

They're not going to play any MVC schools, they're going for sure wins, close to home, where their fans will outnumber the home teams fans in their own gym...

Why not expand the field but give the regular season conference champs a first-round bye - all of them, not just the teachers pets.

Why not expand to 128? That way, all the BCS gets in, all the deserving Mid Majors get in, and the perpetual one bid leagues are still one bid leagues. Maybe that would reduce some of the pressure on the BCS to play road games as they could take a loss and it would be the end of the world. Maybe expand the season another three games so the BCS can get the home revenue and still play some away games...

                              What this guy said:

Thirty-two teams? Too light. Ninety-six teams? Waaaaaay too heavy. Let's keep the NCAA tournament at a not-too-heavy, not-too-light, just-right 64. Down with expansion!
