While we might want a deal like this, it's not as good as it might seem.

60 games over 3 seasons is 20 games per season (and they get to count bracketbuster games).

The MVC has 18 games on ESPN networks this year without counting bracketbusters or the final weekend of conference games (where 1-2 usually get picked up by ESPN). Combine that with us getting our Championship game on CBS and I think we're doing OK.

I might like to see the quarter/semifinals on ESPN, but we're not missing a whole lot right now. Plus, since we are not exclusive with ESPN, we also get a lot of games on FSN.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

The bones of that agreement show that the Horizon League will have 11 regular season games televised on the ESPN networks every year - 7 on ESPNU and 4 on ESPN2 (in reality).

Is it really that much different than what the MVC gets on a given year without a nifty, super-official ESPN-MVC contract?

I think the Valley actually has a slightly better package on the ESPN family then this package for the Horizon league.
But the Valley should have a better package considering that the Valley has been significantly better than the Horizon over the years.

This package should really be read as the Horizon League other than Butler. Butler plays a large number of games on ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU every year, these would just be incremental to that.

How about we trade Evansville for Butler for conference affiliation? I'll even throw in a sandwich to be named later.

This just shows what ESPN thinks of the MVC in the near future. UNI and Ill. St. will drop off next year. WSU and maybe MSU as contenders. MSU is a maybe.

It seems that everyone in the media outside of Valley cities believes that this league will tank sooner or later. Most seem to think sooner. I don't understand. Even though we only got one team in the Big Dance the last couple of years, we were still a solid conference. I would argue we got screwed!. What is it going to take. :-x

Evansville does suck big time right now. If they start to win the fans will be back in mass. The question is if they can complete in our league long term across the board. It may be better for them to joint the Horizon League and start winning again and build their fan base back to what it was in the Jim Crew days. I will say that they draw better that ISU Blue.
It's my understanding that they are the smallest school in DI basketball. I could be wrong on that, but it is still going to be hard for them to keep up when you have a very small student population.
