  • How much longer on the disrespect?

The headline on the KC Star home page yesterday was "Who has the best home court advantage in Kansas?" Of course, they only had two choices and one was not WSU. Then tonight, ESPN runs the headline "Kansas is a two team hoops state these days."

So is this just how it's going to be since we're in the Valley? Is WSU just going to be invisible?

If the powers that be think they can ignore us they'll continue to try to do so. But they won't be able to ignore us for long

I agree that winning takes care of everything, but it really sucks to see a Johnny come lately like KSU get something WSU couldn't get in its best years.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see KSU kick the crap out of KU tonight, but nonetheless.

It's as simple as this: You don't exist unless you're apart of the Big 6.
          Deuces Valley.
          ... No really, deuces.

It's amazing to me we came out of the K State scrimmage without any broken bones.

K-State is getting additional attention because of who they play; not necessarily because of K-State. Let's face it, ANY school will get more attention if they play UT, KU, etc... and happen to beat a few of them.
WSU's worst enemy is the MoVal.

It might help if WSU played a non-conference SOS that is a little better than 320.

True. It would also help if the other in-state institutions didn't have an axe to grind with WSU and put em up on the schedule.

The love for KSU is fleeting. On the drive home tonight, the local sportscasters (KU alum of course) were chiding KSU about the whole Octogan of Doom thing, asking how can you call it the anything of Doom when you have lost two games in a row at home? And of course digging up the fact that KSU has only beaten KU about 3 times in the last 20 years. Doesn't a rival have to win more that that?

If you live in KC, you accept the fact that KU dominates the headlines and airwaves. Even over KSU and MU. So to think that teams like WSU or MState would garner any attention at all is wishful thinking. Having said that, the number of WSU games on TV is significantly higher than any of the 24 years I have lived here. There have only been 2 or 3 games not on TV. Even more that Missouri State.

There is no point in taking it personally, there is no love or oxygen for any school that is not KU, KSU and MU, and KSU and MU are pretty much the younger kids who get all the hand me downs....

There. Fixed that for ya, and clipped it for kicks.

I managed to catch the end of last night's game. At the end of overtime, the production crew flashed a graphic announcing that the win marked KU's twenty-first (21st!) 20+-win season.

Assuming (safely I hope) that the Shocks manage to grab the requisite number of games, depends on who's counting, in this year's final stretch, AND win 20+ games for the next 20 years, the year will be 2031. Think about that. One more time. 2031. It's pretty outrageous.

Re: Home Court - It looks like Allen Field house has witnessed 233 wins and 12 losses in the past 15 seasons of regular season play. It's MBB inhabitants are also on a 54-game win streak in the facility. As a facility, it also receives nearly universal critical accolades for embodying the spirit and tradition of NCAA Basketball. Come on, this is a place that's so lively and intimidating that Baylor Coach Scott Drew recently sparked controversy by taking his team off the court, at least in part, to avoid having his players exposed to the KU highlight video and player introductions. I'm not sure why any reporter would think this is an unresolved topic for discussion; regardless of who is included as the #2 team. But, as we all know, the drive for splashy headlines (particularly ones that cater to a geographic or ideologically bounded audience) can make reporters say fantastically stupid things. We suffer for their sins.

That said, "Octogon-of-Doom" is about as lame as lame gets. It's weak. It's forced. It brazenly evokes the MMA (which is about as un-collegiate as you can get). This is further demonstration that nick-names shouldn't be forced.
