  • Bracketbuster: Andy Katz

This is what Katz wants to see:
"I'd like to see the following: Wichita State at Northeastern as two of the top teams in the MVC and CAA;"

According to Katz we are the best team!!!

    " There's a difference between a good team and a great team "

Key words being "two of the top teams". He isn't saying we are the top team. Even if he did what the crap does it matter? UNI has a full 2 game lead on WSU and has proven it can win on the road. WSU has a tough stretch ahead of itself the next 3.

WSU will be the top road mvc team. Uni is an home team this year and obviously so is Northeastern.

This is as much about Katz starting the drumbeat for Siena v. Butler as it is publicizing the BB.

Whatever happens expect that to be the big matchup that ESPN is going to push. Butler is nationally known and has been talked up by the network since the beginning of the season. Siena is there eastern representative for chuckleheads in the Bos-Wash megalopolis.

Northeastern is not bad. I would prefer to get VCU.

Wow, Katz doesn't even have us as one of the tv games right now. That's just sad.
        Deuces Valley.
        ... No really, deuces.

Hard to get excited about bracketbusters, not much upside unless you play someone like Butler

Katz is full of it! Not that it won't work out this way. It just defeats the purpose of the BB. Some good teams are really getting screwed around in his matchups. At this point, UNI should be playing either ODU or Wm & Mary. ODU and Utah St are in no-win situations against Green Bay and ORU. Wm & Mary should get Utah St, or a couple of other teams ahead of Murray St.

I understand a couple of the TV games due to location. You need one or two for the western half of the US. But in no way, should Iona vs Arkon be ahead of WSU vs Northeastern.

They don't want to send any darling teams to Utah St. because they wil lose.

Utah State: Kansas has a 54-game home winning streak, but the Jayhawks still have only the second-best home-court winning percentage in the nation since 2005-06. The best belongs to Utah State, which is 80-5 in the past five seasons at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum; that's a winning percentage of 94.1 percent. Utah State has won 18 consecutive WAC games at home and had a 37-game overall home winning streak snapped by Saint Mary's earlier this season.

Keep in mind that the Colonial league is very hottly contested right now. I believe there are at least five teams in the hunt for an at-large berth. No more than one or two will get one. Wm & Mary is currently two games out of third place and Murray St can do them no good.

Can't figure Katz. I'd think ESPN would want the best teams on tv. WSU has a better RPI than 7 of his 10 tv road teams. Guess it's a good thing Katz doesn't decide who goes where. I'll bet HCGM would take that Utah St. game in a heart beat.
"Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.

I'm not so sure Katz doesn't have a hand in who goes where. Doesn't ESPN get to pick, or least have a say, in the TV matchups and after that it goes to the conference commissioners?

If ESPN has any say (and I think they do) then I promise you Katz does as well.

I understand ESPN sets the match-ups. But Katz stated in the article, just above his TV picks, he is not a factor in determining who plays who. But then again, he states those are his 11 choices for TV games, but he only lists 10. So maybe you're correct.

Thought it be interesting to compare Katz' picks with the BB Chart Wuzee found. Remember, the top chart simply shows the road teams / home teams from best RPI down. The second chart shows the "conflicts".

With that chart, I would have to think that either WSU goes to VCU due to conflict and WM and Mary goes to Utah St. That's just a guess.

Sunday is our last game before they announce the televised matchups, no?

                              Just win, baby.
