  • Official "I want to win the Conference Tournament Threa

Got the Idea for the name of the title from a thread over at the phog.net (lame I know). Its looking more and more that we need to win in St louis to get into the NCAA.

Yesterday, we controlled our own destiny in the Regular Season Race, but now we need help from someone. I think its possible we can win out, but we have to win at places like Bradley and SIU. I am nervous about those games. Heck, I am afraid we could end up losing all road games from here on out.
The mountains are calling, and I must go.

I don't know - this team struggles putting together 40 minutes and sometimes just disappears entirely.

The team depth is actually retrograding. No freshman contributing. Stutz is looking more like a boy among men during MVC play. This team seems to lack b-ball I.Q. with some of their decisions they make.

It is hard for me to imagine them putting together 120 minutes (that is assuming they don't have a mid-season meltdown and finish in a 3 way tie for 5th place and end up in the play-in round).

This is how I see it.....
Our ending record will be 24-7 (not counting tournament play)

I say we win all the rest of our home games and win at Evansville and at Bracket Buster.

Losses on the road---UNI, SIU, Bradley

I do think we have to win the tourny to make the big dance---but I was thinking that we would anyway..prior to today's lackluster performance. The only way is if the rest of the conference can help us out by beating UNI and we end up sealing the conf. championship (not likely but possible of course). Even if we don't make the big dance.....NIT seed should be pretty darn good and we could end up getting some great teams at our place. No way am I hoping for the NIT....I want the NCAA. BUT if the NIT is it.....our season is a successful one.

imo we should win one of the @siu or @bradley games. but the loss today probably kept the shocks from getting an at large bid unless they beat uni again.

That's pretty much what most of us expected (or should have expected) in October.

At one time I speculated that if the Shox could go 15-3 in Valley play, then they could get an at-large. 15-3 seemed possible, but only if the Shox could avoid having a head-scratcher loss like the Drake game. Very few seasons get by without one or two of those.

15-3 is still "possible" but very unlikely. Even with a 15-3 conference record going into St. Louis, losses against CU and DU would move WSU from a near lock for an at-large to a doubtful bubble team.

So, just like we figured at the beginning of the year, win the Tourney or hope for the NIT. Most posters in October thought the NIT would indicate significant improvement in the program.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

You can not be inconsistent during the season, and expect to win the tourney in St. Louis. Our loss to Pittsburgh can be explained because Hannah had sit out, but what about the Illinois State loss by 15 points, and the losses to Creighton and Drake????

We have to beat the teams we should beat and are expected to beat, whether we are on the road or not, whether we are 'on our game' or not.

This team definately has heart, I just don't know whether they can get things figured out to finish the season like they should finish it.
