  • Most respected?

I had the great fortune to sit right behind the UNI fans last night and I must say they were one classy bunch. They cheered, hollered, got on the officials, etc, but never uttered profanity and talked with me during breaks in the action. At one point the gentlemen in front of me turned to another older guy and said "Wow, this place is sooo much louder than Creighton." He said it was his fourth time at Wichita and it is his favorite arena to visit. Early on in the game I joked with him about their new ranking and he said "yah, and SI just did a feature on us this week...we're screwed."

I may be the only one who feels this way, but I respect the heck out of Northern Iowa. They seem like a good bunch of dudes that just play tough good basketball and are well coached. I can't find the hatred for them that I feel for most other teams in the Valley. Needless to say I love beating them but they don't bother me like other schools do.

Your thoughts on UNI? Any stories to help me up my dislike for them?

I respect the hell out of Northern Iowa for letting Andre the Giant's kid play on its team.

And Awesome Sauce, I agree with your statement but the ones that were at the game are all I have to go on.

I started to like UNI when Robbie Sieverding played there. Very good player and I liked their system.

Ben Jacobsen the player dropped them a notch in my mind after his antics here in 2005.

I like Ben Jacobsen the coach but for some reason I'm just not that impressed with their current personnel. I have to give them credit for getting the job done, however.

I beg to differ. It bothered me until midway through the second half who he reminded me of, then I figured it out.

We have a couple UNI fans who have made most of the games over at least the past 4 or 5 years. They sit behind us and a little over. They have been very decent people to be around and really cheer their team, but nothing out of line.

I disagree with the thought of for every 1 good there are 2 bad. I sincerely believe that most fans in every city are no different than they are in Wichita. The ones you normally notice are the lowest level for obvious reasons. I have generally had a great time in St Louis with fans from every team. Yes, I see fans from every team (including WSU) who make me cringe, but the majority just love their team and love basketball.

Honestly, I had a number of Creighton fans who told me we should have won as we left the arena in St Louis last year. They were very complimentary.

I don't like UNI. Sorry. I'm sure they're great people, but they are not committed to athletics and are bad for the valley. They dropped baseball, can't draw to their closet of a gym, and they were too cheap to keep a coach that graduated from UNI. I respect the accomplishments of past and current UNI teams, but the league is down when they are on top.

Eating us does seem a little harsh.

                        Postgame Interview with Jacobsen

                        Re: Postgame Presser

I love it when opposing coaches gush about the crowd and the "big-time basketball environment" at CKA. Jacobsen couldn't have been more impressed and complimentary.

I hope that someone is editing all of these comments together for our recruiting video.

I don't know. I still go with Andre the Giant.

Look, it's the UNI team photo!

I've noticed that. Reading other team's message boards it seems like most MVC fan bases hate us. I could accept the fact that maybe WSU fans are just d-bags, but it seems like Bradley and Illinois State like us, so I don't know what's up.

Alot of fans around the valley are "jealous" of the support we give to our shockers.
