  • Enjoying it...

Monday when K-State beat #1 Texas, Frank Martin tried to play it off like it was just another win, taking care of business, etc. He showed no joy and was very methodical about the whole thing.

On the Scott Van Pelt show they talked about how that is something they don't really like about coaching these days and I completely agree. SVP pointed out that there isn't much of a point of being a coach and going through everything if you can't enjoy a win like that.

Tuesday when WSU beat #20 UNI, HCGM spoke of drinking from the victory chalice. He and his team worked hard for this win and he took the night to enjoy it.

Not taking anything away from what Frank Martin is doing in Manhattan, and I wish nothing but the best for K-State, but I greatly prefer the Marshall way. I'd rather see the coach enjoy it. I really liked it last year when HCGM got very pumped up after some home victories.

he also mentioned that he needed to go toward the end of the interview and that he had some celebrating to do with family and friends...well deserved. I like his heart on his sleeve attitude it is refreshing and honest if you ask me. It makes you believe that hes a normal guy like the rest of us.
1/16/2010 on the "Screw at the Q" HCGM... " Ive never seen a foul parade like that...If you would of let me know it was going to be a foul parade I would of brought a different team" .... "dont talk to me about fouls....Ive got to go back and look at some tape... I have some thoughts but I need to look at the tape and then I will have something very strong to say"

I love me some GM, and considering the WSU family lost a dear friend this past week, everyone deserves to thoroughly enjoy this and show it. It's been a hard time.

Frank enjoyed the victory just fine. He also knows what happened 2 years ago after we beat KU - a pathetic effort in a loss at a depleted Mizzou. He just is making sure his team is ready for OSU on Saturday. There are no Drakes or Indiana States in the Big XII - every game is tough and Frank is making sure his team keeps that in mind.

Congrats on the win last night.

Wichita State needs an official victory chalice now, something big and gaudy that can be rolled out at every special occasion...

                  Colorado and Nebraska.

BTW, Coach Jank and Illinois State (former KU assistant) made the claim that coaching against the bottom half of the Valley is a lot tougher than coaching against the bottom half of the Big 12. He specifically mentioned that there are no easy wins like Colorado in MVC play.

The point is well taken (Coach Martin's response set aside) that it's nice to see those that put in the effort enjoy the rewards too.

And that is EXACTLY (one of several reasons actually) why Gregg is beloved in Wichita (and still at Winthrop) and will always be so. He is a man of the people. Passion, family, will, fight.

I'd say there are no easy wins in most conferences, regardless of level, simply because the teams and coaches know each other so well. And as HCGM says, "its a grind" and at least one letdown game is inevitable. Hopefully we burned ours last Saturday at Creighton.

I agree, we need an artisan to create an official victory chalice - we would have to raid a French museum for this one:

Maybe House of Schwann can develop a shirt with a large Shocker Victory Chalice on the back to give away at a game - all of us in attendance at St. Lou could wear them to the last game of the tourney!
