I guess somebody thinks more of him than the majority of SIU fans.

Lowery to DePaul??

I saw this and wondered if the Salukis wouldn't mind helping him out the door.
He's had some pretty good teams, but unless they're about to turn a corner, they've been spiraling downward the past couple of years.
I still wonder if the success he's had is tied more to Weber and Painter than his own.

There are three reasons why Lowery is attractive to DePaul, IMO:
1. SIU fans are down on him, so he might be open to leaving.
2. Due to #1, he might not require a contract as lucrative as what he already has.
3. They want his assistant coach, who is the son of a prominent Chicago AAU coach.
#3 is probably the most significant reason.
After his name surfaced as a potential candidate, a lot of Saluki fans were ready to help him pack his bags.

I do not understand why SIU fans would want to push Lowry out of town. He has done a good job there and has brought a style to the valley that a lot of other teams are trying to do and that is play hard nose physical defense. He also brought it a good recruiting class last year with Dillard and Booker. Booker is a four-star prospect who is still developing and Dillard is a very high three-star prospect who is doing a very good job as a sophomore. He has also gotten a few other pretty good recruits. He is one of three coaches in the valley who can recruit at a high level (Altman, Marshall). He also has terrible facilities to recruit with. I have heard it is a dump there. I think he is a good coach and I do not see how SIU could bring in a better coach the Lowry.Shocker Forever!!

Well actually one of those recruits is number 5 in the valley in points per game and leading the valley in assists. That would be dillard.
Booker is a working progress, but his stats are better than Stutz.
He is doing something with these recruits. He only has one senior on the team and he transfered into the system.
They are a pretty good team and are going to become a pretty good team over the rest of the year and next few.
I like Chris Lowry as a coach. I know I would not want to face SIU this year at SIU.Shocker Forever!!

Lowery has had half or more of his "talented" recruits leave or get dismissed. Josh Bone, Ryan Hare, Torres Roundtree and several others I can't recall.
Now their young post players are Evans (apparently a major jerk on and off the court) and Booker (inconsistent and questionable effort).
Tony Freeman may not be MVC POY, but without his arrival they would be worse than they are.
Last month the accepted a transfer (Diamond Taylor?) who I think has been plagued by legal problems.
Things are not all well in Carbondale.

Booker: .512
FT Percentage

Really, they seem fairly close across the board. If anything I would put Stutz the advantage because I think the area where he has a large edge (free throw shooting) is more valuable than the area Booker has a large edge (shot blocking), particularly because it coincides with Booker's style of defense giving up more fouls and Stutz's length may result in fewer blocks, but has resulted in a lot of misses by guys having to adjust their shot for his presence."Cotton scared me - I left him alone." - B4MSU (Bear Nation poster) in reference to heckling players

I didn't think MSU could bring in a better coach than Hinson.
I'm absolutely positive that SIU can't find a better coach than Lowery. They have plans for facilities upgrades, but any new hire should take a hard look at that and the schedule for those improvements.
SIU isn't likely to part with $750K for a new coach, which is what they're paying Lowery. SIU's athletic department hemorrhages $$ and the only way they can upgrade facilities is raise tuition and give money to the athletic department. SIU's students take a heavy hit to keep the athletic department solvent.
Lowery can recruit talent. He's got a system that's nasty. Somehow he can't recruit players with talent who will play his system and he doesn't seem able to let his coaching style evolve to fit the talent he can recruit. Throw in the player defections and that's the only way I can see a coach with 2 S16's still coaching in the Valley. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
