Like it or not, there are still people out there that perceive a diminishing level of fundamentals in basketball as being attributable to black players, while holding white players on a pedestal for being fundamentally sound.

Just look at the attention payed to JJ Redick and Tyler Hansborough. They weren't just seen as good players, but as saviors of "the way basketball is supposed to be played" which often might as well mean "the way white players play."

A white player, therefore is much more likely garner praise for being fundamentally sound than a black player. In the inverse, white players often struggle to get respect as great athletes, even if they are just as athletic as their black counterparts.

This story wasn't the only angle you could have pursued, but there is a stereotype that white players are fundamentally sound and black players are athletic and I think there is value to breaking down that stereotype.

I try to stay out of these conversations because well I'm not really all that articulate and would just rather call someone a homo. But TMH pretty much summed up my feelings on the matter.

The black is a better athlete to begin with because he's been bred to be that way — because of his high thighs and big thighs that goes up into his back, and they can jump higher and run faster because of their bigger thighs. This goes back all the way to the Civil War when during the slave trading, the owner — the slave owner would breed his big black to his big woman so that he could have a big black kid.

I'm reminded of the Discourse Analysis studies that demonstrated a substantial difference in which the play of white QB's and black QB's are accounted for in the NCAA and NFL by well trained, well heeled professional commentators.

When I think of 'elite' free throw shooters, I tend to picture a borderline translucent hemophiliac from Iowa. It's also probable that 'elite' free throw shooters are coach's kids. That this isn't the case this year is probably a point worth a little ink. No need to begrudge the writer his angle.

One thing that amazes me about CH's free throw shooting is his pre-shot routine. If you look at his eyes, he never looks at the rim until he shoots the ball--every single time. I always tell my kids to focus on the rim before you shoot to increase the chance of making it, but his technique blows all of that out of the water.

Why did the Yankees dominate baseball with a bunch of Italian players half a century ago? Was it because Italians are more athletically gifted than other racial groups?

Or could it be that racial groups with less opportunity in society have always seen sports as a way to gain upward mobility, therefore putting more emphasis on it and placing more members of their group in those sports.
